Posted May 18th, 2010 11:08 AMOIL FOUND ON KEY WEST, IN THE LOOP AND ON THE WAY
Coastal communities throughout the region are preparing to respond to the mess.
Here's an easy way that you can help.
Surfrider Foundation's Not the Answer campaign has partnered with Skytruth and Ocean Conservancy to create a grassroots online tool for tracking and reporting oil as it comes ashore throughout the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf Oil Spill Tracker allows people in communities throughout the region to assist in the monitoring and cleanup of this horrible catastrophe.
Simply visit www.surfrider.org/spilltracker to share your experiences and let us know when and where you've seen oil hitting the shore or affecting wildlife. Easily upload pictures of the mess or link to your local news reports.
No oil on your beach yet? Please also take pictures of your local beach NOW before it is spoiled to help document the dramatic changes that occur. Understanding the mess that occurs from these horrible accidents is critical to strengthening our call for reform and a stop to new drilling!
Your stories will provide invaluable information to agency responders and cleanup crews, and help to document the devastating impacts associated with this spill.
Please visit www.surfrider.org/spilltracker today to share what you've seen on the ground. And stay tuned to Not the Answer for all the latest updates and volunteer opportunities.

Wind and waves have died out a bit. Thanks to a late season high parked out in the Atlantic we got some East chop for quite a few days last week. I surfed 4 days . Not bad considering the time of year. Today the winds have slacked but have gone SE . Still enough winds out there for loggables at lower tides.
Today we really welcome the start of the rainy season and of course the tropical season. I get the feeling its going to be an active one so stay tuned . Already we have a weak low over Fla but its not going to do much. Cane season is just around the corner . Of note is a small trade swell setup this week. Upcoast could get some of that trade action later into next weekend and into the early part of the week. Missing is those upcoast missions in the spring . Lets hope this summer is active for us. Surfrider getting active on many fronts so do your part.
Enjoy

Posted May 12th, 2010 07:29 AMBIG UPS TO THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH
After 10 years of pressure from Surfrider Miami Chapter, the City of Miami Beach is now giving out citations for beach littering. We have folks reporting on this site that they have seen the process in action. Sounds like a great gig for police officers who set up undercover as beach goers with chairs, drinks and all then scope and record litters and call in the uniforms to ticket! NICE!
Looks like waves today and tomorrow and maybe bigger chop later in the week. These moderate weather scenarios are always a crap shoot. NSW revises the wind speed every model run so get it while you can cause tomorrow maybe flat.
Jose, nice move bro busten a turn and spraying me like that. Glad you know what your doing cause I would be getting fitted for a new grill today! Log on.

If you are looking for something to do during these flat spells, why not:

Location:
the beach at 9th Street near Lummus Park, Miami Beach FL
2. Go to the Miami Beach City Commission meeting on Wednesday, May 12th. City Commission Chambers, 3rd Floor, City Hall, 1700 Convention Center Drive. We are hoping the commissioners, with our encouraging, will approve funds and ordinances to help stop the littering in Miami Beach. (see previous posts) I'll post the time you are needed most later.
Any other ideas?
