New Orleans wins !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Report Pete

What an incredible superbowl. Congrats to the Nawlens , they pulled it off.  On the wave front we have a healthy NE swell right on schedule with NW winds this morning . If you have a chance get it soon as the winds are forecast to veer around to the NE. Tomorrow winds go Southerly and pick up. If the swell sticks around till Wed it could meet the ever elusive offshores but the swell is scheduled to drop off dramatically.  Anyhows , decent surf with a bump upcoast the early part of the week.

Enjoy

Pete's picture

I'll have a visual of the Palm Beaches in a few.

nobe first light: very small (ankle) clean swell rolling in but NOT breaking... yet... Heading up coast.. Stoked!. Good luck locals..

Pete's picture

Not a bad idea  to go to the longer period swell spots

Mr. B's picture

Careful with the tiburones up the coast....

Looks like lines coming thru at SoBe.  Any physical visuals?

Pete's picture

Just got an update of somewhere near RR. Sizable with some head high sets but lumpy and frumpy and lots of closeouts. A good ride can be had but you gots to pick um right.  More reports later

crsurf's picture

Who is going to be at the Hands Across the Sand event in SoBe this Saturday?

Go to www.SurfriderMiami.org to sign up by clicking on the banner at the top of the page. We will have tents at 1st and 3rd Streets. Meet at 12:30-12:45, walk out to make the line just after one and join hands right at 1:30 p.m., hopefully from the Jetty to 5th St.

We need volunteers, so if you are against oil drilling off the FL coast, come on out and tell your friends, too.

Update from my Brother who went to the RR area. Fun conditions but not too consistent, 2 wave sets, shld high and a bit bigger,  bunch of South beachers out including Pablo, Rat, fat and others.  Not great but fun maybe Fun +. Still fairly clean . Lots of spinner sharks spooking everyone.

If my wife heard the the two words "free'" and " Icecream " together it would be a potential huge problem. What is it about the swirly stuff that creates crack like responses?

pelu's picture

The best ice cream is after a good surf sesh indeed. Not going upcoast, too shocked about those mini great whites.

sobegrom's picture

sobe visual neone?

gump152's picture

Surfed SPC today. Waist to chest, one sneaker head high wave came through. Long waits between sets. Caribbean blue warm water.

shrimpbreath's picture

I went from Dade to Broward and just saw weak gutless knee high surf surf. Guys on the incoming tide were trying. Alot of fat guys in fullsuits going straight mostly. Upcoast St Lucie area has some size but a sideshore wind as of noon,

Davice's picture

Damn Fat guys with your full-suits stealing everybody's french fries, I MEAN WAVES. . . .and going straight too? glad I went to work then,

saw some sets on the D-Field pier cam, but will save my get outta work early pass for another day

stared at a flat ocean today...

gump152's picture

If you went to Central Palm Beach, you scored.

GablesLos's picture

RR was very fun and 3/4 of the lineup was the sobe crew. The other quarter was the spinners going nonstop all day. def a good day

GLos

Mr W.'s picture

Juno was great today solid chest to head and clean. Its great to be surfing good waves again!

anything left for tomorrow?

El Cache's picture

RR area was gd this afternoon/evening, solid waves in the chest to head+. Went to the grassy are at 5 and it was firing with one guy out, in 5 minutes I sae 3 spinners jump out 20 yards fron shore, with 1 bull at the end of my observation. I said no thanks. It was head and peeling.

Pete's picture

Last day of our current NE swell . Unfortunately with SE winds it won't be pretty.  SE/S windswell on tap for this pm. Gone tomorrow. B.A.L (big ass low) to develop in the NE over the next couple of days.  We are on the outer fringe but it could be a swell source with somewhat favorable winds come late Thurs/Fri into Sat. Early next week we get another bounce swell shot.  Nothing epic but multiple ridable sources which has been the norm this year.

nobe first light: Choppy, disorganized but breaking .. in the knee to waist range depending where you kook..

gump152's picture

"Depending on where you kook" ?  freudian slip?

Upcoast visual from RR thigh high and sloppy

Any visuals at south?

C.Leon's picture

glad u guys scored and kept all limbs. south may be rideable on the log later today

shrimpbreath's picture

Its a sloppy thigh to waist high E wave with hard SE wind on it at S Beach, It is ugly and basically a drop in as the tide was falling this a.m.

gump152's picture

Sobe was more fun than it looked. Get on it.

done

just got to south on gump post, don't bother sub knee.

so whos going to post direction for RR?

kshane's picture

Thanks!

homey-the-surfer's picture

directions to reef road- take I-95 north. you can go the scenic route and get off at southern blvd or go a little more north and get off at okeechobee. make sure you go east or this will take you in the wrong direction. go all the way to A1A and head north. take A1A all the way down to till you can see the big inlet. Look for the street that says reef road. you will know you are at reef road because there will be at least 1000 people in the water however there are only 4 legal parking spaces.
hope that clears things up.
p.s. anyone need directions to sebastian inlet or south beach?

El Cache's picture

Who cares if we name surf locations, that's what this site is for. We post for reasons, and lately cause of the nasty sharks. Just don.t be kook's when your out at Reef Road, Juno Pier, Lake Worth Pier etc.

mperrin's picture

Hey, anyone out there know how to get this new film to play somewhere near us? http://www.ultimatewavetahiti.com/ Right now it is only scheduled to being playing in Tampa. The website says the IMAX theatre in FTL is a valid option, but it has not been scheduled yet.

Mr. B's picture

Homie, can you tell me how to get to Chicama and Pacasmayo in Peru?   Also, directions to the Nurambela Resort in Fiji would be helpful.  Thanks, buddy.

today was good..

homey-the-surfer's picture

Mr B- I can only tell you how to get to the beaches outside of Lima. A long time ago someone took me there. I still have a grainy old video to prove it. There's someone in my video that looks vaguely familiar like you,but that kid looks about 19-20.

kshane's picture

South was fun just before and during low. I agree with Gump.

Mr W.'s picture

An alternative way to get to RR is go west on okeechobee till you hit the bee line and go north a bit and look for the exit.

gump152's picture

Anyone need directions to Turkey PT?

RRivas1985's picture

The saint Aug bouy is starting to show NW winds, any chance of something for the midmorning - afternoon in sobe tmrw?

I totally agree w/ "El Cache", who cares if we name spots?? Stop being selfish, Share your rides!!!

Mr. B's picture

A grainy vid is unacceptable, Homie.  Let me know if you need a copy from the original Video8.  Coño, it's been that long?

I guess you can give me directions to Conchan then...

Pete's picture

Winds are blowing good up the road but too much west (WNW). Maybe later

shrimpbreath's picture

Uh there is some dynamic weather out there.Fowey is showing a NW wind at 30. Up coast its cranking but alot of west in it. Keep an eye out. Low tide right round 12 ish.

i need directions to the new Haagen Dazs... btw winds at the buoys are nw now and pumping, swell height picked up also @ 120mi buoy.... could there be waves??? could there???

crsurf's picture

There is a Google Map on the Ice cream page... Also, Check this article in the Miami Herald - and if you have an opinion - share it...

Check out this kid Matt Wilkinson's move at the 2:00 min. mark.  Holy S#!t!

http://www.surfline.com/video/webisodes/live-the-search-matt-wilk...

Wind blowin' but that doesn't matter to Sow Beiatch!  Yesterday all signs pointed to the fact that there should have been waves in the afternoon. SE to S wind in the 20+ range among the most prominent and it sucked!!  SB does what she wants when she wants.  Impossible to forecast her accurately. We are subject to her whims...the bitch!

C.Leon's picture

I would check sobe at sunset if I didn't have to work. Possible refracto

xavi's picture

Hello all-
Just a quick note that i had to share. Surfed with Jimmy Buffet today at a reef break called Lorient in Saint Barths. Only 5 people in the lineup-actually knew one other from my time in Montauk this summer. Anyhow he was on a standup paddle board and had just been back from Tahiti and Miami where he was for the superbowl. Conditions were good. Shoulder high, glassy and wedging. DId not see him fall once in about two hours. Shared the same peak for about 1 hour. Laterz

I was joking about the directions.... nikki beach cam? lol...

ZAP's picture

bad on me for this late post, but no worries b/c conditions weren't great. yest i checked "north dade" spot w/ S wind protection so it wasnt too chopy & it was mostly thigh w/ a rare waist. inconsistent w/ some lulls, bout 11 people out. this was from 3 pm to 5 pm. needed to get wet since i missed the goods up the road Mon & had a little escape time from wrk - good for that but not worth using a sick day

surprised noone has asked you where exactly that is yet -

anyway wont make the holding hands on the beach day but is there any other way to show/give support?

Cole's picture

Any chance for a little wave sliding this evening at sobe or HH? buoys make it look like a possibility. anyone know?

kshane's picture

Write you local reps.

Good website with info and simple ways to take action at http://www.dontrigflorida.org/

cheers,
shane

Pete's picture

Josue, the winds below us (in the Keys) dropped to 16 knts by midday so it wasn't a fluke the waves dropped fast in the PM.  I should have returned your text and told you not to go.

I was out at the end of the day (maybe 5:30-6:30) yesterday, around 3rd through 5th streets. Yes, the waves were small, but the conditions weren't bad. When I arrived, I ran into a few of folks leaving who said they'd had a decent time, and there were about 3 of us out there until dark.

sobe: ankle - knee high lines

South has 6 inch high lines coming through.

ZAP's picture

nah Johnny, i'll let homey give the directions - though nothing secret about where i was. BTW, i could use some directions to a buried Spanish treasure

shrimpbreath's picture

There is a waist high wave around North Palm Beach showing late 2day says someone in Juno. The winds upcoast are howling NW.

kshane's picture

Sobe behind Nikki got good around 4pm. Got out just before 5. Clean knee to occ waist. Fun on the log, though a smaller fish would have been perfect for some of the better ones coming through. At 3 it looked like crap, by 4 it was beautiful with only a couple people in the water.

Pete's picture

Unconfirmed reports of chest high sets by dark

Pete's picture

We also have a mother of a snowstorm in the NE. Lots of wind, just need for the low to pull out.

C.Leon's picture

Told u guys

Josue's picture

Damn Pete, I missed that!!  Listen I pay good money for the Pete's Special Surf Report Service ;P to be ingnored.  Hahaha!

5:30 had some waist high waves coming through.  Kinda sectiony, and fat with the tide, but fun nonetheless.

Winds gone NNW already and dropped off a bit.  Morning looks iffy...

RCG's picture

yeah, came up around 4 . started getting more consistent around 6. so stayed out till 6:45 at a certain mid beach break. waist high. some fun ones lined up. i'll be up at 6 am to take a peek.

mr. jean ( i guess, for those on here who call me that )

gump152's picture

Shayne with the wave of the day down at South. Sweet barrel!

got good about 3 to dark. waist to chest range on the sets. Much more fun on a long board. wave was slow and fat but barrelling in the right spots.

RCG's picture

looking out the window now @ midnight. winds are cranking again and there is some pretty consistent oscillation in the water. early morning looking good, if the wind stays NW. fat tide tho

mr. jean ( i guess, for those on here who call me that )

Avidsurfer's picture

Xavi,

Killer you got to surf Lorient on St. Barths. I surfed that reef back in 1997. Beautiful wave, crystal clear water with tropical reef fish. They say that at a bar called Le Meridien which is just up from the harbor in Gustavia is where Jimmy Buffet wrote the words to Cheeseburger in Paradise. So it doesn't surprise me that he's there. If you get a chance please post some pics of the waves in St. Barth's. My ex wife (aka The BITCH) threw away our pictures from there to include the ones of me surfing there. Who knows maybe we can organize a Sobe Field Trip? LMAO!!!

Oh yeah, and how amazing are the french women that vacation there? I want to get back there soon. Maybe next winter. One cool way to do it is to charter a sailboat in St. Maarten and sail across. It's how we did it.

Enjoy and Thanks for reminding me of that great place!

Flat this morning from several reports . Dribblers coming in. Don't waste your gas. Also huge backup on I 95 Northbound after downtown.

Pete's picture

South is flat as well according to Rodger dodger (unless you are a gopher) BTW thanks Mr Jean for your reporting.

shrimpbreath's picture

Guys on here are startingto sound like kooks. Barreling at South Beach on a high tide yesterday before sndown?? Okay barnyards

gump152's picture

Ok so I'm a kook for giving Shayne props for his barrel.

shrimpbreath's picture

This place is a chatroom, not a resource I guess. Homeboy I was at the beach. Barrels??

gump152's picture

Ok so I made it up, whatever duder.

Cole's picture

So. I paddled out last night... and there were a couple hollow sections. just sayin. empty south beach with an orange sky and waves is a pretty special occasion. you know if you got it. soo stoked

kshane's picture

If Gump says it, I beieve it.

Truth's picture

I can confirm that there were barrels last night at the right spots, and I can confirm Shayne's barrel. Only a handful of us out as the sun went down, lots of fun++ waves to be had.

shayne's picture

THANKS ROB! I was out for two hours that was the only good one I got. i did see dav-o get a couple of barrels i guess we were just seein things...  its not like u filmed surfing for TV or anything

Mr. B's picture

Yep, kshane, I believe it too.  Stoked you got the wave of the day, Shayne.  Cool that a fellow brother is willing to share that as well.  Granted, there wasn't much yesterday, but all it takes is A WAVE (singular) to make a person's day.  This ain't Hawaii, Peru, Costa Rica, etc.  It's our home - good 'ol MIA and as our friends at F1RST have stated, we are the global kings of the infamous reduction swell and therefore, take it however you can,so if someone gets a sweet little tube, good on ya!

Shrimpbreath, SURFER magazine once had an article about the best and worst surftowns in the U.S.  If you read it, do you recall what was the #1 worst city?  Yesiree, our very own MIA.  It is what it is, but it's home.  I guess we gotta keep things in perspective and be stoked and grateful for every single wave that rolls our way because we know how ephemeral things are around here.  Flat for 5 hours, going off for 30 minutes, flat again for another hour only to turn on again before nightfall.

In my own little invaluable and humble opinion, be stoked for someone who catches "the wave of the day".  Why take the wind out of it with negativity?  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and yea, sometimes that beauty can crack all of us up, but the stoke is still there and that someone will hold on to it until the next sesion.

Stay stoked my friends.

Cole's picture

Wise words Mr. B. Still trippin' on yesterdays evening session. Would that be considered epic? maybe just fun++++

Nobe: some knee high crumblers rolling in. Looks ok for a LB. Not too much wind on it. Hope it picks up a little closer to low tide.

Hopefully this weekend will be fun....

See ya in the water.

TO WHO IT MAY CONCERN I AM SHAYNES DAD AND I HAD THE WAVE OF THE DAY,HA HA

shayne's picture

more like the best 3 waves of the day

kshane's picture

Ok Shayne, time to earn that "wave of da day" and regain those Karma points by comimg out to the protest against offshore drilling with Surfrider this Saturday.

Anyone and everyone who surfs at sobe should come out to support this protest. One hurricane or human error could wreak havoc on our local break, the health of our community and environment.

This movement is not about politics. It is about protection of our beach environment, our tourism, and our way of life.

Hope to see ya'll there, boards in hand! An hour and a half of your time and a lifetime to feel good about it.

Saturday, February 13, 12:30PM to 2:00PM - starting at the Jetty.

romi- right on... got here saturday and it was overhead+ at picket fence-the right that sits just up lorient on ne swells. Had a nasty over the falls wipeout accompanied by the looonnng holdown that usually follows-LOL. sunday was still head high, monday winds got on it and yesterday and today good clean shoulder high leftovers. now the good news- there is good chance that the city of miami will reopen marine stadium and jimmy is in talks with them to do the first concert when and if it happens. as far as pictures go i will do my best to take some tomorrow and sat when new swell arrives in 1.5-2 meter range or in sobe speak fun+++ All is sweet here- had another session with jimmy today- he is one cool cat- i politely asked for a picture together and got it. PEACE

St. Barths sounds sweet. My buddy went there for New Years and said the waves looked good but the chicks were ridiculous. Hope you are banging some hot model ass between sessions. What a let down on the local front this week. Aside from the 30 mins last night sometime between 5:32 and 6:02 pm we are geting skunked. Was hoping the forecasts would be accurate. Oh well, maybe this weekend, summer flatness just around the corner :(

Pete's picture

Still a long ways from summer flatness.  Wow, marine stadium concerts . I remember a few rocking ones.

xavi's picture

ibis i an happily married but yes the chicks r in sobe speak smoking+++ sunset session last night still in the fun range. new swell arrives later today and it looks like it will be firing overhead again. will take some pictures. scheduled to leave tomorrow but scrambling to change tickets and hotel. AS FAR AS SOBE BARRELING I DONT DOUBT IT ONE BIT. AT THE RIGHT TIDE SOBE WILL BARRELL AT JUST OVER WAIST HIGH...
