SURFRIDER MIAMI SCORES THE FIRST POINTS OF SUPERBOWL!

Open Thread wyatt

A team of eco-surf activists had a plan. They bought a banner this afternoon, positioned themselves for the start of ESPN's Sports Center and when the lights came on...............thousands of dollars in free advertising for our own Surfrider Miami Chapter! Greg and Amy Gordon and crew on the ground and Wyatt in the control booth got these pics, video to follow.
Yeah that's right we're representing ANTI-OIL STYLE!

Costa Greg and Amy with ESPN crew and THE COPS! WTF!!!

Had a blast at South this evening. At first glance I saw it and said oh well better than slappin it at home. Little outgoing tide coupled with some sand bars and voila-instant fun. Me, Darren (Soulger) Josue making the most of it.  Little barrel on the inside and long rides made my day.

Josue's picture

Awesome!!!  Go Greg and Amy!!!  Guerilla style!!  That's how you do it!!

Fun lil' sesh at south on that little sandbar.  Darren and Pete were killing it.  Stoked and noddle armed...

Pete, I thought this was a PG rated forum. What exactly do you mean?

Many talk, some do, and we are judged by what we do. Surfrider, Paul Watson, gotta go old school here, you guys rule!

El Cache's picture

Hah, that's a good one, Wyatt ,where were you watchin sportscenter live to let them know when to put up the banners? I wonder if Tom Jackson and Jaw's knew.

Good on ya Surfrider!
Scored fun little peelers yesterday at sunset near 4th in a pack of apes who decided that 2 foot surf was worth having a fist fight over. Apparently some guy got burned and on the next wave he decided to give the burner a taste of his own medicine. Well, the original burner did not like that and felt it necessary to begin bashing in the other dude's face. I jumped in to try and break it up...nothing worse than seeing unevolved homosapiens going primal over each other in the surf. The worst part was that the basher's friends were urging him on like a pack of rabid dawgs providing a glaring example of pack mentality. So, two examples of opposite spectral activities: Surfrider channeling their energy (clap-clap-clap!) in a positive direction and SoBe baboons resisting evolutionary conventions (booo!).
See you in the lineup....

The more you know, the less you need...

looks flat as a pancake today.

Hey surftheinlet, have you had a chance to try out the new board? I hope its workin for you......Anyone hear anything about tomorrow, anywhere?

surftheinlet06's picture

Hi,

I've tried the board this past Tuesday in Melbourne. The conditions at sea were a bit rough for a beginner, I'm hoping there's something ridable in SOBE this weekend for me to give it another shot. Thanks again! :):)

Maybe tomorrow. Good luck finding parking tomorrow at sobe tho. I may have to join bonzai for the bike ride.

Hey pete what's the deal with a possible refraction event with these west nw winds tomorrow? Is it even possible?

Pete's picture

I think we have a legitimate chance of refractory surf tomorrow. Best to wake up early and check the cams.

swell info was spot on today. Ankle high swell showing the sand bar locations.

Pete's picture

Where they spot on for flatness?

Pete's picture

Cams are showing something this morning , I'm going to give it a go . Proly not very big but something.  SB party going to limit my time.

Pete's picture

Sobe cam looks tiny , headed for Boca/Delray region.

Check out the drawing in the sand on the Boca cam! Lower right corner.

Just got back from a scouting mission. Knee high most areas. Saw a few waist high waves but too inconsistent for my tastes. Maybe later on incoming.

C.Leon's picture

Ur the man Pete. I may go to sobe by boat

North Swell-Clean/Small....LB-Weapon of Choice..

crsurf's picture

chkd Mid-Be. Not quite knee high and crumbly, almost sideshore and chilly. back 2 work 4 me.

C.Leon's picture

Winds looked like they blew Nw but on the weak side. Gonna still go check by boat. With the long board in tow of course.

Nice going with the banner, guys! Pretty damn cool...

~peace!~

PB was waist and sharky, tides killin it now

Just got back from Sobe. About 10 peeps and dropping, down by the jetty trying hard in the knee high stuff. Didn't see anything bigger than that. Perfect wind direction and beautiful water color.

Mr. B's picture

surfed south PB - thigh/waist  was fun/fun-

clear water, no sharks in site,  tide fattening the wave too much now

Mr W.'s picture

Surfed NPB this afternoon around waist to chest high and real clean till about 2:30 when the wind came more on shore. some fun waves and very low crowds. Really surprised to catch it with just a hand full of peeps at the local hot spot on north side. Fun way to end the weekend. Bird tells me starting tomorrow another swell will be coming in.

check out the boca cam, last picture of the day. is it just me or does that look like a perfect little clean reeling knee high fun left

sobegrom's picture

nope, its just you

C.Leon's picture

pulled up to sobe by flats boat just before noon yesterday to find a knee high NW windswell wave breaking on a couple sandbars down by the last lifeguard tower (red and white). Crystal clear water and only 3 other dudes out. too small to shortboard. it looks like the winds didnt blow hard/long enough upcoast. its a shame because with more size, yesterday would have been pretty good. surfing by boat was cool. i would like to go that way from now on for these cold front swells. on the way back we stopped for a beer at jimbo's and met some "interesting" characters.
