New forecast

Forecast Pete

Things are looking up.  SE winds hovering in the 20 knt range locally bringing us back to the ridable range . Forecasted to hold thru the day but drop off tomorrow. Things get alot more interesting for the weekend as a low meanders off the NE coast and drifts SE. Decent fetch of NE winds should bring a nice swell sometime Sat. More of a sideband swell so a bit of ifs in the forecast but it looks pretty good right now. Even Further out (180 hrs out) another round of NE winds shaping up. Lots of potential so keep tuned to our forecasts and reports.

Don't forget the Surfrider movie event next Friday. Its shaping up to be another great event. This time around there will be a healthy living undertone (a la California lifestyle). We are having a special food guest (Lou's brother in law) who owns a Raw foods Cafe. On top of that we will likely have some body work specialists and info on healthy/clean living. More info to follow but you won't want to miss this one.

Pete's picture

Got a call from a friend who said there's some ridables at South.

kshane's picture

surfed some fun ones this morning with four other guys out, and still looks like it is movin n shakin.

mid MB: knee high. fun on the LB. Should stick around til the tide comes in.

PanamaD's picture

Just checked out sobe. Couple of people in the water, it's surfable with a long b. definitely , but seems like with the tide coming in now there won't be much left. Earlier must have been good. If you're at work wondering wether to skip and go, save it for another time, unless you got a bigger board it's not worth it. I'll be going back to the office now.

Thanks for the post Panama

Everybody:

This isn't surf related but it's important...

Pet Rescue, which has been operating as a non-profit, no kill, home for life animal shelter is closing/merging with the Humane Society on Nov. 1st (Sunday) and many awesome cats that had a sanctuary there will no longer have it, and need to be placed in good homes ASAP!

I know a lot of these cats and I'm really worried we won't find homes for all of them in time.

Another non-profit has agreed to sponsor anyone who can take in any of the cats, (adopt or foster) providing for their food, litter, medical, (all expenses!) for anyone who wants a cat but can't afford to care for them.

You can see their photos and descriptions on Facebook from this link:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Miami-FL/Adoptable-Cats-Pet-Rescue-...

or here: http://www.petrescuemiami.com/cats.html (but the Facebook page is better and has the better/easier/faster contact information - but I can provide that for you if necessary).

Please help out and adopt or foster these cats?!

(Apologies for the non-surf related post, but this is important...).

~peace!~

Pete's picture

No worries Slider, its a good cause and you have been a contibutor to this site for some time.

Sunday is shaping up to be a good surf day (at least the potential is there) . SW winds early with a 5-6 ft NE swell.

N/NW winds early next week giving us another quick shot at Bounce action swellage. That will be a race against time with strong N winds setting in after the front.

Thanks, Pete.

Just wanted to add that this can be a temporary foster situation for just a few months to keep them safe and out of danger of being put down, so we can have more time to find permanent homes for them. Great way to teach your kids some responsibility on how to care for an animal without the lifetime commitment - or how to be a good human and save the life of a helpless animal... Anybody interested in helping with the cause please check out the links in the above post?
Thanks everybody.

OneofaKind - You got me in that vid.. about :14 into it, zipping by. Fun day for sho... Wyatt was out, too.

shayne's picture

We're gonna get some pretty solid swell this weekend with a 10 second period. Should be chest to head with some plus sets and few closeouts. From the NE direction so it should be damn fun from NPBC to the Cape. Winds look a bit iffy but pretty sure there should be some glass Sunday morning.

Mr. B's picture

Not too sure about that, Shayne.  Could also be poles for some sort of inlet repairs.

Looks like there seems to be a sort of tropical wave in the forecast for midweek. Far out, but it shows a nice sized windswell with dead winds thursday morning cfl. Weekend looks good. satellite and buoy show models are right on. chest to shoulder with bigger i think.

kshane's picture

Anything fun that will make its way down this far, or is it road trip time?

thanks,
s

PanamaD's picture

It looks like Road trip will be it for the weekend! I'm stoked!!!!!

Mr W.'s picture

Is anyone worried about the fat high tide in the aM over the weekend each day.

crsurf's picture

I'm setting up the CRSURF tent at the AAU contest in front of Coconuts in Cocoa Beach this weekend, so I already have the motivation to make the drive. Expecting waist high Saturady with a onshore breeze and waist to stomach in CB Sunday morning with offshores until about 1 p.m. South Brevard to Reef Road will be smoking come about 10 a.m. til noon. Get it while it's hot.....

Freezing my ass in Minneapolis, can't wait to be back! Bring it on surf gods!

Can someone figure out what time high tide is at fort pierce on sunday and isnt there a time switch? What time is the sun going to rise?...... I'm disoriented and don't have time to figure it out. Will someone please let me know when the sun is gonna rise, when the tide is high, and what the hell the time is gonna do? And no Shane it's road trip time. PBC north....

Pete's picture

If we go by todays time it gets light a few min before 7. When does the time change? Sat night?

Latest quickcat shows healthy NE winds so we are a full go for the weekend.

C.Leon's picture

woo. third weekend of surf in a row. i am liking this.

i am thinking about hitting walton rocks on sunday. anyone ben there recently? i dont even know if it still good. thanks.

if u are worried about the high tide, go to the n. jetty with the rest of central fl.

Mr. B's picture

Bookmark this page for all oceanic intercoastal Florida tides.

Find Fort Pierce. Towards the bottom of the page, select the starting date and how many days of tides you want and go!

ZAP's picture

yeah W i'm worried about the high morning tides since i can only be in the palm beaches Sat morning this wknd. i'm going up anyway so we'll hook up. looks like it should get better and fill in more late Sat and early Sun. no matter, we have a fun wknd lined up. surf in the day, halloween parties at night w/ slutty costumes, we get an extra hour & the Phins will beat up on the jets!!!

Big O's picture

I surfed Walton Rocks on the Tropical Storm Danny swell, the only thing that sucked were the sand fleas, no see ums or whatever those little bastards are and mosquitoes to add to that, u could not even stand there to check out the line-up with out being attacked! so whats the call yall? deerfield north on sat? Go PHINS!!!!!
Pray 4 Surf!

C.Leon's picture

thanks big-o.

saturday the swell will be a lil more northerly to fill in south of p beaches, but sunday, its p beaches and north.

The time changes at 2 a.m. Sunday morning, ending Daylight Savings Time... Set your clocks BACK one hour - so the Sunday morning high tide will be one clock-hour earlier than it is now. The thing is, the websites don't always adjust the time difference, so it's best to look at the day before to see if they did...

(The Sunday tide clock-times should be about 15 min. earlier than Saturday. Example: If high tide is 8:35 a.m. on Saturday and the chart says 9:20 a.m. for Sunday - they didn't account for the time change and you'll need to subtract another hour. If the chart shows 8:35 a.m. for Saturday and 8:20 a.m. for Sunday, they've already figured in the change).

p.s. Sunday is the last day to be sure the Pet Rescue cats are safe. (Please see the above posts). Expenses can be paid so It won't cost you anything and you'll make a new loyal friend...
Doesn't anybody want to have a furry little friend around the house? C'mon, step up! Save a life!

Can we not openly discuss spots like W. Rocks. That area is one of the few places i can still surf without much of a crowd so please show a little respect. and big o i say delray north in the afternoon.

Mr W.'s picture

Yes agree with Naggo, no reason to name specific spots.

yes High tide in AM so be patient and go a bit later. Sunday will be best so make plans to hit it or miss the good stuff. Zap feel free to call me after 11am any of two days and I'll let you in on the spot that will be firing!

xavi's picture

Methinks we will all be having fun real soon. He he... All kidding aside I agree with C Leon= 3rd weekend of fun sized waves in warm waters. We must have done something right collectively. Oh yeah we all suffered thru a weak tropical season and the gods have taken pitty on us. Got my permission slip from my wife for Sunday so that is when i will be in the h20... have fun everyone. later

gosurfeen's picture

Shayne, the work being done at Boynton is to replace the pumphouse, cap the jettys and place some pods (small rockpiles) for habitat south of the inlet.  Not anything we have to be concerned about.  The big concern is the mile of 13 real breakwaters planned for Singer Island.  Surf-stopping walls of rock, 250' long, 70 thousand tons of it, sticking three feet out of the water.  Those have to be stopped.  We've done the homework, and we will be fighting them, so stay tuned and if you can, help. Or you may see them at dozens of spots.

Big O, listen to the advice here.  Name counties, or parts of counties.  Naming exact spots is not a good idea here.  Our system works very well as it is, and it rewards people who have good local knowledge.  Please.

That being said, we have a Halloween swell in the water and it will show up Saturday in most of PBC.  JJ just noticed a nice ping on the outer bouy, 5 @ 13!

ale's picture

what do guys think about the wind for Sunday morning in PBC? looks to be onshore ... I dont have a lot of knowledge in the area, so any tip will be helpful. Just want to know if is going to be clean or not

Thanks.

Whose editing and deleting reports from here?  Hi-jacked site or censorship?

Pete's picture

I think its been hijacked. Only myself, Wyatt and Greg have Administrative duties. WTF ?

Anyhows just got back from upcoast . Surf a spot near Burt Reynolds house (is that giving it away too much?). Easily chest high with bigger sets.  A little slopey at first with the higher tide but got much better as the tide dropped. Spiffy clean with west winds. Surfed alone (except for some friendly baitfish and men in grey suits).  Plenty of juice in the water. Saw Oscar Picon and Bobby Weelan (snip/snap) running out to the waves like madmen. Big smiles on their faces.  Pretty awesome morning evening if I only slept 1 hour from partying hard at lincoln road (I was an out of control Robot). Get up there before the North winds come on it.  Great surf if you know where to look.

My post was deleted Mr. B i posted a follow up to yours last night

Pete, I have admin. access too, but I haven't even been checking out the site in the past few days, much less deleting posts.

Plus, I think I've been pretty clear in the past about how I feel about deleting posts.

We need to figure out what's going on here. I'll check with the IT guys at work tomorrow, to see what we can do.

nice run of luck in palm beach county ......nice swells last two days .....could we get a bonus mid week?

big quasi tropical low moving WNW @ 25mph (33N/ 56W) with a big NE fetch on the NW side........the recent acceleration may push it further west than models forecast .....perhaps into the swell window of the treasurecoast

Great day in the water again in NPBC... Got there at 9 and surfed till 11 as the tide dropped a bit. Clean, glassy, beautiful skies, even better water, good vibe, no big fishies-just perfect. Great October. Hope you all had fun... Later

El Cache's picture

I have wore my ted ginn jersey to every game and have heard a lot of grief for wearing it, we got him for his speed, not to go over the middle of the field. Now we need to beat the Pats.,

ale's picture

Surfed PBC too. Chest high and pretty fun until 11am then the waves stop coming .

Mr W.'s picture

Yup, surfed PBC this mid morning some fun sets coming through but long wait in between the real good ones. Crowed factor was like 5 guys and then it was just me in the water for a while till the next batch came out.

Don't know whats going on but there seems to be a theft of Flip Flops goin on in PB. Some A-Hole stole mine and my friends cheap .99 cent flip flops yesterday and today I wore my slightly nicer $9.99 dollar flip flops and hid them under one of the stairwells and when I returned they were gone. What a bunch of c*ck suckers they are to take other peoples flip flops.  A few years ago someone stole my flip lops at Flagpole too out of the bushes. Its sad its coming down to this. I now only wear cheapos to the beach and as in example yesterday even cheapos get stolen. Nice! what a bunch of low life losers those people are. Sorry , had to vent and warn.

Mr. W, that is exactly why i leave my flip flops in the car. It works great if you dodge the syringes. Surfed Jensen today. Waist to chest maybe some plus sets but kinda weak and swamped. Also more closeouts than there should have been. Should have checked the buoys before i headed up. (They dropped off overnight)

C.Leon's picture

n jetty from 4-6pm winds went southeast and backed off a bit. chest plus, fun.

My post from the 31st from my mobile was also deleted. Mid pb yesterday in the afternoon was knee high at low tide with long waits in between sets.

Pete's picture

There was a bunch of deleted posts but I think it was from the server . The site was down at night and was when it happened. It also did not appear randon but choronologically.

Still waves upcoast with Westerly winds this am. I sent my brother and Jaydog on a mission. You will need to go a bit higher than yesterday. Martin County showing clean swellage despite high tide . Should only get better as the tide drops.

Mr. B's picture

Doesn't look like much of a decline in swell for the rest of the week.  If anything, swell could strengthen again mid-week.  If the models hold true, we're in for rather strong NE winds this weekend.  Stay tuned.

crsurf's picture

Not me.. I promise.. I was too busy surfing up in Brevard. Sunday a.m. was the call with the dropping tide and offshore winds. Sets were a foot overhead, otherwise chest to head in Satellite Beach. Cocoa Beach was two feet smaller and clean until about 11 a.m. for the AAU contest. Then surfed 'Lums' from 5 p.m. until dark, mostly chest and chunky with waves ridden to the beach. Fun, fun, fun...

Sorry about the post deletege, I agree it was the server... But if anyone starts getting some weird spam in their inbox, just let me know and I'll 'seek and destroy' the spammer.

El Cache's picture

Mr.B, you don think the swell will declione tomorrow. Stuck in MIA, and i got a report from Ft. Pierce that its super clean and solid chest+. I'm thinking it will decline for tomorrow, and I want to surf on my 44th B-day tomorrow. Rex Ryan is a complete ASS!

Mr. B's picture

Happy Birthday, Cache!

I'm basing the forecast on what I've seen on the FNMOC Wave Watch  Models over the next 36 - 180 hours.  Nothing but shades of blues and greens coming from the NE/E and shifting more northerly as the week progresses.  Today may be the last day of the clean conditions though.  An increased NE/N windflow is expected all week ranging from 10 - 20 knots up and down the coast.  By the end of the week, we can expect strong on-shores and a return of the Miami chop-chop.

El Cache's picture

Thank's. I was looking at weather undergrounds marine forecast and there saying northwest, them north winds by the afternoon.

Mr. B's picture

I see that too.  NW/N 5 -10 mph in Ft. Pierce for the a.m.  So I stand corrected.  1 more a.m. of clean conditions.

ZAP's picture

yeah, it looks posts from halloween went missing. must have been a server gremlin. i sent in a report this past Sat from my mobile after surfing central palm beaches in the a.m. it was rare shoulder, sorta clean but lost its power & size at around 1 p.m. which was close to dead low. heard it picked back up later though. lets see what we get this wknd

Pete's picture

Swell has turned more East hence the drop off is considerable below Martin County.  Tomorrow should hold to around 3 ft but nothing like this weekend.

Big O's picture

Leaving for Costa Rica tomorrow for 2 weeks for 2nd year anniversary! have not been there in like 10 years...don't ask me why....looks like the forecast aint great....oh well my luck, had a few questions, whats the best way (deal) to exchage USD to colones, We use to to it at the local bank by Jaco, and also what have the departure taxes have been recently? and should i bring racks or are straps enough, just taking 1 funshape. any input is welcome
thanks

PanamaD's picture

Hey big-o, you are going right when it's changing over from the Pacific to Caribbean season. As it is still early November, you may get the last of the pacific swells, and there should be great conditions. You might want to check the other side of the country if you have the time. After mid December, the pacific dies completely, save for some beautiful sneaker swells. About the money, try first at the airport or at most banks. Try to avoid the hotels, they're more expensive.

crsurf's picture

B.O. ~ the rate is currently 576 colones per $1. The airport is usually NOT the best exchange rate. I would either go by the bank to change it (now there are 3 in Jaco) or bring $20s and try to get change in colones from the busier restaurants. Most will do it if they have colones and give you from 550 to 575 for each dollar. My usual recommendation is bring $180 in twenties, a couple of fives, and $10 in ones to tip the drivers/porters if they're courteous. If you bring extra, I like travelers checks only if you are staying near places that have banks. (many hotels/most all restuarants won't take them since it is a hassle and they lose money on it) Also, many places now take credit/debit cards but some hotels charge up to 10% extra and then your bank probably will charge you 'foreign transaction fees'. And the exit fee at the airport is $26 (paid in $$ or colones)

Most every SUV rental has racks, so straps should be fine. And you may be able to fit your board inside of the car with the back seat down.

Another DadeCoSurf crew will be there from 11/13 to 11/29 in the Southern Pacific so if you are around, we'll see you in the lineup!

Check www.crsurf.com for the surf report and forecast, plus tide info.

xavi's picture

Is it too much to ask from the powers that be that every month should have 4 days of decent surf like we just had this october? I mean other places like Bali will consider the conditions we just had over the weekend "flat to barely rideable"- i kid you not. Not trying to ruffle feathers but I hate the lulls that we get here especially in sfl. It would be great for the kids-hard to get them exposed to the sport when there are so few truly good days a year! Anyhow it does make it that much better once we get these days but it leaves us yearning for more and sadly that wait is often too long. Later all

Mr W.'s picture

Fun sets were still found this noon in NPBC. This swell seems very tide dependent so it gets better and worse with the passing of the tides. I seen it go from mushy knee to waist high today to a punchy waist to occ chest high in a matter of an hour or so.

Mr. B's picture

Sorry, Cache.  Swell's down to nothing right now and winds on both Canaveral buoys have increased.  20 Mile Bouy has N 15-20 knots on it now and the 120 Mile Buoy has N/NE 17-21 knots with both showing an increase in wave heights again (not swell height, wave height) +- 6 feet @ 6 sec's and swell height of 1.3 @ 10 sec's.  Don't fret, Cahe.  You'll have a belated birthday this weekend with strong NE/E bread-and-butter windchop.
