New definition of FLAT

Forecast wyatt

Flat today, was flat last week, and will be flat next week.

Summer is hear but that also means quality Stand Up paddeling down 5th street and all along Alton!

Surfrider completed its Dune restoration of the 52nd street beach. Great time and an event that is always positive. Unlike beach cleanups this event lasts for years and volunteers can go back and see how plants they planted are growing! Aftwer a beach cleanup you can go back to see how the garbage is growing. CRSurf will soon be putting up the galleries of the event for all to enjoy.

well we may have some chop next week

GFS model has dropped the Low coming up from the caribean for now (great)

not lookin good.....but there's a small amount of hope.....

Body part cleanup in Biscayne bay this weekend. Evite to follow.

CR, I agree on the master plan for Virginia Key. I have had BBQ's on Virginia Key with the family about 4 times in the past year. That is land that is not bein used for anything. The only beach that I have see improvement is the one they finished adjacent to the bridge before Key biscayne. Now you mentioned on the forum that there building a second marina in the Marine Stadium basin area* a new, multi-story dry dock facility for 750 vessels* Three parking garages: one three story with 200 spaces; plus two more four-five-story garages with an additional 1050 spaces (Marine Stadium Basin)* a "signature" waterfront restaurant (12,000 square feet)* a "retail corridor" shopping mall (40,000 square feet, two stories)* a 60,000 square feet Aquatic Center with Olympic size pool* Classroom buildings* a Conference Center/Corporate Retreat with "dormitories" in the Northpoint area* a Sports Field complex with eight parking garages (7,300 spaces), includes track and field stadium, baseball fields, soccer fields, training rooms, infirmary/clinic, tennis courts, indoor raquetball courts, gym and training rooms, etc....plus "dormitories" for visiting athletes. Stadium lighting throughout. (Landfill site). Now I can do without the shopping mall, which does not belong there, but everything else I think should be done. If you consider this a refuge, then by god get rid of it. Our kids would benefit from this in the long run. It's been way to long that this are has been a dump, since i saw many concert's at the stadium back in the day's drinking brew's in the water. And thank's for reminding me, cause I will vote for the plan as long as they modofy the retail B.S.

OLD SCHOOL

Hey BOZDUB
What's your beef with SUPers!!!!
I don't know how old you are or how long you have been surfing but its about evolving yourself in the pursuit of cathing the wave. Our surfing conditions are marginal at best in South Florida, soo that means you pick the right equipement for the conditions at hand.. You should go out on the internet and educate yourself on what the SUP crew is doing around the world on some of the heaviest wave on the planet.
Luke Eagan a professional SHORT BOARDER has been SUPing on highperformance boards for some time now and he feels it has progressed his short boarding more than anything else he has done.
Its a progression. I started out on a 10'5" board a year ago, went to a 9'3" and now I have a 8'9". I have finnaly got to the performance level in the board that allows me to surf circles around most long boarders. and catch more waves than most.

On the other hand BOZUB don't evolve and just keep your head in the sand. It Just means more waves for the rest of us.

ZAP's picture

seen some pics of SUPers dropping in on an overhead wave. i don't have the balls to try that w/ such a big boat.

i'm escaping the flatness round heeere, goin to costa for the wknd. looks like a fun pacific swell pushin in at the same time too. stoked!!!

crsurf's picture

El Cache - I'm glad you're at least DOING SOMETHING. Write in your comments to the planning committee.

ZAP - ya need a flight/rental for this weekend?

The rest of ya'll - If you sign up for the BIG SWEEP this weekend, meet up with Surfrider to help us win the competition part. I will be giving away a CRSURF tshirt to who ever picks up the most cigarette poets. (If I had more, I'd give it.. Ya know it)

AND last - International Surf Day is June 20th. Bring a friend up to North Shore Park to join Surfrider for some fun and games, lots of prizes, and share some stoke by teaching a newbie how to surf. Times to be posted.

Good karma brings good surf...

heard on the radio today dade county has to raise property taxes and sales tax because deficits. why are they building a 600 million stadium and 500 million dollar virginia key project?

Mr. B's picture

Just returned from a quickie trip to Nicaragua.  Caught some fun as sh!t waves!  Surfed a few spots to the north and south and even got a session at a left point with Holly Brook.  She surfs pretty damn good!  It was clean conditions the entire time with head/few feet overhead the first two days then dropped to shoulder/head with overhead sets Monday then dropped again today.  Waist/shoulder with moderate offshores creating for beautiful beachbreak conditions.  Surfed alone with my traveling bros and got my fix of tube rides.  Time to travel, my friends and hope you score a few too!  Pictures (whatever few we took....) to be posted soon.

don't give me this junk of creating jobs. because me spending my money on goods and services creates more jobs than taxes squandered by politicians. cache the bill sadowski reserve and virginia key fisheries are sick you should check it out with some friends.bonefish, tarpon, permit, snapper, grouper, lobster, shrimp, seatrout, etc. good times.

did you surf the boom.

Dangit Boz, I almost had a SUP sale... Them things are expensive to make. Very few people can afford one. Its the Larget board in the surfboard family. I wanna see some hardcore SUP action. Like somebody charge the Haulouver Inlet when its incoming or outgoing tide. Hauling a$$ and Riding the Lumps that form up. But dont blame me if you Die?

Be Neat...

Mr. B's picture

While in Nica (around the Colorado beachbreak), we surfed next to this guy with an SUP.  Waves were head/overhead and he was charging it.  No doubt he has been the most successful I've seen firsthand.  Truth is, it's a beautiful and graceful way to surf and look forward towards trying one sometime.  I know it ain't easy...

Just wanted to ask if anybody on this site could help the Grove Outreach Center. It feeds over 200 families weekly and gives them groceries and protein. People literally are in line as of 5am on Sat mornings. I get over 100 lbs of pork weekly, that I deliver there on fridays. If anbody is a food distributor who might have out dated good, that can be donated please let me know. If you have protein from restaurants/distibutor/ that can't be sold but is still good please let me know and I will arrange for pickup. Just as long as the pickup is worth the drive/gas I will arrange it.. Thanks.

zap u are gonna get the goods. i havent been on this site for a while, summer flats and studying for the bar exam but i came on to tell anyone able to do the strategic strike to hit NW pacific CR this weekend. good luck

ZAP's picture

thx C.Leon. i'm heading out manana & will be back in MIA Tues. forecast for Pacific CR is 3 to 4 ft overhead - crushing time. still cheap flights directly to CR. lots of MIA locals living part or full time over there too.

C, good luck on the exam & stay focused. been there. if u miss a swell for studdying, no worries as there will always be another

next hope may be some wind chop this weekend if we get lucky

then a real hope is that a Low takes shape coming off the carolina's late monday and spends most of tuesday moving slow enough to be throwing swell toward florida (NE/NNE swell)......which would hit wednesday/thursday of next week........stay tuned

Sorry to break it you guys but SUP's are for kooks unless you're Keal'ii Malama or Raimana and using them to catch waves at 10 foot chopes. I cant wait to watch some of you guys get pitched paddle in hand if we ever get a real swell. I only worry for the real surfers out there trying to dodge your leashless Boston Whalers in the whitewater.

Mr. B's picture

Just added a couple of shots from Nicaragua in the photo galleries.  Just good 'ol fashioned fun as hell waves!

Hasqvarna! Thanks CG for your input. There goes another SUP sale... Don't Forget Garrett McNamara!

I'm not saying it not graceful or not fun. Some of those pros shred.. but a dude on a huge board w/ a giant paddle and gnarly fins in the line up w/o a leash, flopping around with no idea what there doing is a hazard to everyone else in the water.

sweet Nica pictures of a thumping left Mr B! Agree this is the time to travel if you want to surf. I myself am coming off knee surgery to repair torn meniscus that flipped inside my knee. Had surgery in February but it is still bothering me.... Fortunately or at least that is the way I look at it the injury actually occurred while surfing (kicking off a wave) while on vacation. I managed to surf the rest of the week until it flipped inside my knee and needed surgery as my knee was locked. The way I look at it is that it happened while surfing and not a car accident or someone else's fault. In any case it has been way too long for me. Those Nica pictures sure brought back some good Maldives/bali memories... later all

looks for a shot of somethin from the NE wed-thur next week.....not sure how far south impact will be

monday nite/tues morn a low may form near NC/SC border and then move slow enough tuesday nite to send swell produciing winds pointed toward FL (not sure how the interaction with the high to the North will play out on exact angle's) maybe Pete has a heads up on this 1. I'm dying here

I know I'm not supposed to chime in about Peru, but this is too tempting...

So far I have refrained from posting, but I'll take the chance to say that for the past month I have been down in Peru with some large tour groups. I recently took Ekolu Kalama to Chicama, the longest left, blah, blah, blah... For those that don't know him yet, he is one of the best SUP riders in the world, Dave Kalama's cousin and an all around waterman as you would expect a guy born and raised to one of Molokai's most traditional families. He told me Laird and Dave got him into SUP for when the surf was down. Now he rides Puerto Escondido, Chopes and 40 foot Jaws with his paddle. He was so stoked in Peru with the length of the rides and he rode a fish, a thruster, a log and his SUP. He told me a lot about the problems that can occur with newbie SUP people in the line ups, he told me about how the proper etiquette for the SUP people should be with regards to surfers. He totally understands the rift that is taking shape with this new sport that has attracted more people that never surfed before in their lives suddenly taking to the line ups.

Anyway, the point is that SUPers need to learn proper behavior and technique, respecting the surfers, who have to learn to live with more of them in the water. Ekolu is a heavy guy and would also encourage all of you to travel, especially down to Peru, where he will be conducting some workshops this August. I hate to say it, but you can see some great pics, video and more details @ www.machapuadventures.com

So if you've read this far, CRSurf: Now that I'm back from Peru, lets hook up so I can get that ad up on the site, I got da money!!!$$$!!!
