Sunday nite forecast - Apr 1 2007
Forecast from tc
Posted April 1st, 2007 07:44 PMWow, it's been awhile since I've forecasted for Miami, but I hope to keep this a regular Sunday nite feature. I don't have the luxury of local knowledge and might not be able to call it good for a particular spot, but I don't think the recipe for good waves in Dade County has changed too much since I left. Unfortunately during that time, the wind models haven't gotten all that much better either. So excuses aside, here's how things are looking.
Right now High Pressure has been sliding eastward and settling into a Bermuda High type pattern. This will start dissipating soon and the moderate SE flow which was had over the weekend will go away too. Sometime late Tuesday/ early Wednesday, a low is progged to form around the mid Atlantic states, and it seems like its location is moving more eastward with each model run. Anyhow, a front should accompany this low, and will start making its way into central Florida sometime Thursday morning. The strength of this front is weaker and weaker with each forecast run, and its getting into that time of year when the fronts usually fizzle before hitting South Florida. In short, its not looking too good for this front to be a wave producer, even though NWS was calling it a "strong" front on Sunday nite. But should be nice weather.
Longer term, Looks like a somewhat strong storm forming in the FLA Panhandle region late Tuesday Apr 10. Bears watching, but thats a while out.

Miami Beach forescasting. It's just like riding a bike....I used to do it with the old Miami Herald weather map, read the isobars, 1008 or less for swell....winds over 25 for 18 hours.. I'd imagine it wouldn't be much of a stretch for an old dog like you...
edit: Nice site by the way. Good job and congrats to all.
Posted one last comment on the old site. Had a few slidies yesterday with the kidtz. Keela had a real nice ride. Damn wish I was 10 and 60 lbs. I hope this front regains some energy and may a gradient for some clean stuff. My knee will be scoped on the 23 and I don't want to mess it up but for clean stuff HELL YA!
Petie had some fun yesterday morning at FP Inlet.
Looks slack all over today.
Ok new site big breath, scareddddd
Herbie we're going to move on the video project just taking more time than I thought. Keep it real over there bro.
peace and progress!
Alright so I went thru the complicated registration and now I'm writing my first post on the new site. Good to see TC is getting back in on the action. Maybe now we can stay more surf related. With the demise of the moderated site , this site will rise to more prominence as a surf forecasting and reporting site. We all look forward to a new beginning, just have to get used to the new look and feel of this page.
Yesterday I shot up to FP inlet and caught some fun ones. Shoulder high kinda confused East swellage but better than anything Sobe has served up the past few weeks. Tide dropped and made a mess of things pretty quick. Still felt good to get real waves even if it lasted a short time. It was the second time using my newish Lost round nose fish and thought it went pretty well. Too early to tell on this next front but models have been hinting at something aimed at us (not Sobe of course) on Friday . Maybe we'll have a good Friday after all. Cheers mateys
SHAYNE i hope to surf soon been alot of wind chop lately thinking about going to el salv.
in may dont want to pay some camp 2000 bucks for a place to stay and food any good ideas
Shayne, El Sal is sketchy if you never been there before. You are safer going with an all inclusive type place rather then drive around looking for place to stay and eat. There are really nice places there (check on the net since they always add more) but if you end up in the wrong town looking for a place to stay without knowing ahead of time where your going is not a good idea. Its not as cheap as CR if you go with a stay here, surf here eat here place but its a whole different story from what people say when it comes to crowds and surf quality.
Shayne W is right it can be sketchy BUT Pete and I went 2 years ago when stranded by Wilma on our way back from CR-fumnny story BUT Pete imeadiatly took us to La Liberdad. We stayed in a small room across the street from Bob Rotherman (forget his exact last namea VERY cool guy from MIAMI who has been there since the 70's) place and a few steps from the famous point break. Room was about 12 bucks a night and we ate at Bob's place, even had a drink with him and he took us around in his jeep with the nice paint job. Was one of the best trips we had BUT we had to be in our room by 9PM or they closed you out and locked the gate with the concertina decoration.
peace and progress!
thanks for the info i went to pr in feb and after all the good reef breaks it would be hard to get on a jet to go surf some half ass beachbreak
Agreed but El Sal is no half assed beach break expect right point breaks with size and dirty water!
peace and progress!
Shayne go on ticotravel.com and get a package to Nicaragua, san juan del sur area, pretty chill place and really good waves, not expensive either
I don't recall dirty water in El Sal. Is it gettin bad already?
Some surf on the way for the weekend.
i was thinking about el sal to get away from the beach breaks i dont want to go with a camp bc i like to do my own thing but on the other hand i want to come home in one pice james those pics u got in nica are sick that might not b a bad idea
i hope mr. w is right about the weekend i would love to get in the water
Don't like the latest model runs for Fla this weekend. What is impressive is the models for South America for this weekend. Biggest swell of the year 20-30ft at 18-19 sec. Beginners need not apply. My evil twin in Chile is getting the ski and towboard ready for action. I hope he survives. Pissed I couldn't be down there for this one.
Hey, Checking in from Tallahassee, BIG council meeting today at 4pm where our Open Beaches Amendment gets voted on. We decided to fly under the radar of the development lobby and get the amendment filed 30min before the deadline last night. Literally a 3 sentece change in statute will require all coastal building permits to have to address beach access in the future. So, We'll see.....
Can't tell you how cool people have been to us up here. Some legislative back stabbing but also lots o' folks coming up and saying they support us 100%. One guy noted , "you know I was handling this legal case about a beach access easement and to this day nobody knows it's there." That was a spot in PB and we're hopeful to start attacking that legally this summer.
Anyhoo, missing most of this spring season up here but thinking it will pay off for all in the long run.
yo shayne, i went to El salv in july with my boy henry, and we are two little sobe gringo locals. we got off the airplane with no idea where we were staying, but knew we wanted to go to punta roca cuz that wave is fire. caught a cab for 10 bucks each to libertad. stayed at the place accross from bob rotherham's for 12 bucks a nite each, and ate at the little local spots for like, ..15 bucks a day each. bucket of beer was 4 bucks for 6 down at the bar closer to pier. we were they 14 days and didnt get fucked with once...gave a couple of the local streetdwellers old surf tshirts and bars of wax. if you want to cruise to other spots... you walk a block and catch one of the school buses for like, 50 cents or a dollar fifty depeneding on how far ur going, and you can cruise all the way to zonte of or that left conchillio or w/e its called. me and henry are two little white kids and we never got fucked with anywhere, we never stayed out past 10 because we were there to surf. la punta roca is my favorite wave ive surfed maybe tied with soup bowl. me and henry and romero are going back in the end of june, because ive surfed nica and costa and its cheaper and way more fun for us reg-footers.
No one has steped up for Margo. I'm dissappointed.
peace and progress!
ok so some models are hinting of strong NW buy late Saturday while others don't show that much. So eather we be surfing Sunday or maybe Sat afternoon or perhaps we will not. Ahh the joys of a bad season. Maybe I should take this time to fix some of the broken tiles on the roof from last years huricane before this year starts. Damn I'm so lazy.
fingers are crossed
W
don't sweat the tiles. I am waiting for this hurricane season to fix my roof once and for all! You and I can kick back with a chilly in hand and direct the workers from our lawn chairs as they work for insurance money!
peace and progress!
I must say, The New Wave Watch 3 is absolutely pimping!
Thanks again TC, TJ and Wyatt! The new format is great, and WWIII even has it's definition back. Hopefully James will also be contributing again.
I was in Folly Beach working this week and the surf was crummy.
We need some bumps to ride before the sea lice emerge.
Right now a small clean swell is showing in front of the old Colonades on S.I. It looks too deep right now, but I'll bet some bars near Kite are working a little. -Tom
