Weekend forecast
Forecast from Pete
Posted April 18th, 2008 06:10 AMVery nice low wrapping up the spring season. Unfortunately we didn't get much down here but those of you that made the drive scored some biggy's if you were at the right spot. For this weekend we will have diminishing NE swell to the tune of around 4 ft at 10-11 sec for Sat and smaller and weaker Sunday -likely 2-ft at 9-10 sec. Winds will primarily be SE and fairly light particularly in the Am. The further North you go the better the chance of lighter winds as the High pressure moves out into the Atlantic and a weak trough moves thru the upper parts of the state. Best bet will be Treasure coast North but North Palm beaches may have decent ridables at the right spot. Sat a much better call than Sun unless you crave small loggables. Further out a cut off low develops but its way to far out to predict anything right now. Word has it the Jet stream is lifting this year giving us a possible dryish summer with increased chances of Hurricanes . Interesting stuff so stay tuned. Enjoy...

Soooo...... where exactly in the Palm beaches should me and the rest of SoBe go to?
Longitude and latitude anyone??
t-point
try here : 26.687343, -80.731316. good luck.
Mr. W, I surfed there last weekend, but I float more in salt water.
T point all day
Yeah that place is nice, doesn't ever get crowded. No locals. Really works best on very strong N-NE winds and correct tides.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO true, but the tide (water level) has been a little low lately.
Just dont forget your big yellow suit and "hood" while your out. Think little sobe spinners are bad wait till you see whats growing at the point.

Winds are lightening up quite a bit, and the faces are cleaning up nicely. It is still shoulder high in central PBC, and larger to the north.
Big party this Thursday night, April 24th, to save surfing at the LW Pier. Surfrider Foundation's Palm Beach County Chapter is throwing it down at Brogues On The Avenue at 621 Lake Ave, in Downtown L.W. (across from IWS). More than 8 thousand dollars in door prizes and auction items have been donated, including a new Viking Longboard, fishing trips, fishing gear, dive trips and lots of surf items. It starts at 8 P.M. with live music featuring the band "Full Range". $10 cover, and all income directly supports the legal challenge to DEP and the Town of Palm Beach, who intend to dump 17 million dollars of poor quality material on Reach 8, surrounding the breaks at the pier, ruining the area for surfing, fishing and diving. The Town of Palm Beach is spending 300K to fight our challenge, and we intend to win.... See you at Brogues Thursday night!
I can confirm TW's report above by phone in report. Shoulder high and cleanish in Palm Beaches. Go surf if you can.
went a handful of miles north of my usual spot and can confirm chest -shoulder high sets in South Central palm beach county, and dropping off in size (w/ long waits) in South Boca
I've been looking at LOLA on Surfline and it looks as if the fading swell might last a little longer or be a little bigger tomorrow down by the Jupiter area than up further north. Is that mis-leading or could it be accurate? Just trying to decide weather to drive all the way up to the Melbourne area or save some time and stop around the NPB's.
It'll be cleaner up north, but larger in NPB area. As usual, sets will be even further apart as it fades.
NE swell always favors the North palm beaches as opposed to the Melbourne area (except maybe for RC's and a few other select spots). Early high tide a problem for some spots. Good thing this medium period (actually properly classified as windswell) favors Fla beaches. Should be plenty of surf manana.
Is that because that part of the state sticks out further that it picks up more swell?
Hey Pete, how'd that board work out for you?
Where you surfing manana? I'll be scouting around in NPB
that was a fun session last few days, Perkins was really good Thhursday, Stuart was fun yesterday, couldn't do the drive today due to deadlines, even missed the paddle out for the young man who tragically lost his life, big shame, that pic makes ya realize, anytime / anywhere.............ya never know!Major condolences to his family and sorry I couldn't show my support, especially for a fellow waterman!
Alright then freaks, see ya in the water!Pray 4 Surf! (that lasts more than 3 days too, notice how it's always on a work day?)
damo fractured his shoulder and wont go to chopes.. how sad
looked at Rf Rd at around 8:15 this morn and was crappy, breaking waist/chest high close outs close to shore. didn’t think just south (sea wall) would be mo bttr. clean, no wind, nice form with some chest sets, clear water not too cold, lots of sun, not lots of peeps. long waits b/n sets though. a SE wind picked up a bit at about 10:30. came in at 11:30 & sets were still coming in less frequent
Awsome swell in Jupiter Isl this AM. Super clean lines with fast sections. A bit more closeouts then usuasl but a lot of nuggets to be found. This is it kids today is the last of the juice.
Very fun waves at FP today. Waist to shoulder early on. Clean with very light S winds. Rodger Dodger and CR surf making the most of it. Perfect weather and plenty of eye candy too. Remarkable the smile on everyones faces today. Low tide killing it. Down but not entirely out. Like W man said this is it kiddies.
What a great trip this a.m.
Surfed RR around 9:30. ZAP's report is pretty accurate, but every 12 minutes or so a shoulder/head set would come through. Pick a section, drop and tuck in, hold on, enjoy the curtain falling and get slammed. Reapeat as many times as desired. Looked all around the area, but the tide was just killing it when it was glass.
Went to the Publix for the after-sesh grind, bought lunch and a few $2.00 scratch off tickets. Scratched one off and won $1,000.00 !!! Not a misprint. How sweet is that? Yep, I'll call this one a successsful trip.
damn!!! i should have stopped in Pube-lick for a scratch off. good for you B. getting paid to surf huh
hopefully that cutoff low sits and spins mid week.
Any vote if there will be waves tomorow in the Treasure coast. Part of me says no, but the optimistic in me says perhaps a lingering swell will be still there. Although high tide in AM will put a hurtin' on it.
As expected the swell dropped to near loggable levels. Current FP buoys show 1-2.5 windswell about half the size of yesterday. Still could get fun at the right tide treasure coast North but if you surfed previous days its a stretch.
Models had the cut off low going good yesterday but todays models aren't too impressive. With that said expect new NE swell late Wed into Thursday to the tune of 4-5 ft at 10-12 sec mainly upcoast. Iffy to last until Sat as it did this week.
Sounds like we finally got some goods. I went upcoast yesterday but waited too long as i thought that the hight tide/full moon in the am would be too much for the swell. Obviously i was wrong-when i finally got there (when as far as RR) the conditions were not there. Looks like a bit further north was definitely worth it. Not all was lost as went for a good swim and chilled with my pregnant wife. On the drive north she noted that the drive to Delray/PBC was not bad at all which brings me to the following point- considering that we get 5-10 good surfing days a year in SOBE (hurricane related and cold front related)-it is a far better option to go upcoast on any event. Not rocket scientist stuff but according to my paper napkin calculations you at least have 30 good days of surf if you decided to drive north. Anyhow glad everyone got their share. Later
Phone report from Martin County, still a few clean waves up there for longboarding, and it should improve with the tide if the size can hang in there a little longer.
Last evening with the tide push it got good again in NPB area. Shoulder high plus sets and a lined-up inside left that was going off. Got a few, then shot 250 images in 45 minutes. One of the best photo sessions of my life. Ryan Helm, Lynn Myers, Dave Hogue and Jimmy from Locals. They just killed it, and with the late day colors the motor drive grabbed it all. Right place, right time. Also returned with a new longboard and shortboard, donated to our big fundraiser in L.W. this Thursday night.
Cutoff lows rule!
Dont tease us with a quote like that! Lets see some picS!!!
Sorry, I'm still learning how to transmit images, but I'll do my best.
Has anyone ever seen the conditions of the beaches on Monday morning in South Beach? I just came back from a morning run and the amount of trash, not in trash cans, scattered all over the beaches in front of Penrod's was the nastiest thing I've ever seen on our beautiful beaches!! Perhaps we can organize a beach clean-up in our future!!!!!!!!!!
Xavi,
Hey, congrats dude. As far as the waves, a couple of friends and I caught it pretty good for a couple of hours on Saturday morning over at Juno - solid chest high. After the wind got on it, it started mushing out and closing out. Some dude towing in punted a few nice ones.
But it was nice while it lasted.
yeah when the 'trash' of miami goes to the beach on a pretty weekend, they almost always leave their trash all over the beach. It really bothers me. The trash cans are all over the beach and its really easy to just throw the stuff away. I know i'm preaching to the choir here cuz most of us have a vested interest in keeping the beaches clean and we all care about the environment (except for the real truth of course j/k). Anyways, chance of some nugs in C. FL and maybe north S. FL....hopefully it wont be to messy.
Wed (Spanish river), Thurs.(RR) Fri.(RR) and Sat(Juno Pier) were the best sessions I've had all year. 4 days of solid surf, felt like I was somewhere else. Take advantage on this next round, and thank you lord for the surf, cause I needed it.
thurs palm beach def felt like i was somewhere else...you fuckin scored though! what the hell do u do for income???? sign me up!
Mr. Leon, plan your days carefully and always focus on the winds, tides, swelldirection and traffic and you will acomplish the benifits that i had without blowing off the whole day!
Pete what are your latest thoughts
we got some North winds off of S.C , quikscat's have a blank spot over them, still shaping up for a N. palm beach county event later wed?
i hear angle should be about 50 NE, sounds like palm beach(maybe LW area) north
Happy Earth day to all. Hope everyone try's to be a little extra "green" today.
GLos
Some were "green" on 4/20 a couple days ago.
I'm green all day, every day. But especially on 4/20!

hmm lets see, i took part in directly and indirectly burning of thousands of pounds of fossil fuels in the last 12 hours and have successfully snet hundreds of tons of CO2 into the atmosphere...not to mentionion that by not protesting agianst the govt i am quietly supporting the raping and piladging of used to be soveriegn nations, the destruction of several and diverse ecosystems (Alaska, north pole, the oceans, reefs, the AMAZON, florida aquifers etc, etc) and admit i really like Fiji Water - which as you know has a several thousand mile cargo ride to our supr amrkets - which after i drink the f-ng bottle i proudly toss it in the sand at sobe on sunday afteroon, along with my plastic bag i carried it in and the dozen fliers i was given while walking to the beach - then i got into fight over a parkin space i ended up not using because i forgot - i dont really know how to parallel park, especially when im talking on the phone to someone i am can see roughly ten feet away who is going to rent jet skis so we can tow into the not so big waves here in FL and pretend we are L.H. well notreally we tow in florida because we dont havethe paddling strgnth and just love to burn gas and spill motor oil in the ocean...oh adn my baords are made of highly toxic materials.
happy earth day
got a nice little swirly off S. carolina headed SSE maybe we get a little northerly windswell/swell surprise tomorrow? worth a look
ENE swell headed toward mainly martin county northward for later in the week
I agrees, short little North component followed by ENE swell Wed now looking mo betta to last until Friday. Too bad we get 10-15 knt Ne winds with it too.
What ever happened to the days where we get a swell with no wind or offshore winds?!? Oh yeah... that was last Saturday! Well here's hoping there might be a window of opportunity for clean surf.
Johnny B. I feel so much better!! But don't toss the empty bottles in the sand...toss them at old people and instead of a room in hell you can guarantee yourself a penthouse...next to mine!
10-15knt winds=a big NADA!!!
Sorry to say Mr. W but it was either offshore or light wind all 4 days, depending when you were in the water and what inlet or pier helped!
It's easy to do something for our planet. Tonight I dropped off my excess plastic bags and saved styrofoam egg and meat trays at Publix. Hopefully good karma will come back with good health and good surf - for everyone.

think this swell is gonna be a bust down here - the high thats miving in and pushing the low out to sea is gonna mess it up?
any chance for loggables down in sobe?
shore break in boca
looks rideable or willl be as tide goes out in west palm beach spots that work on waist high stuff
keep an eye on the water could work it's way down
Pete- Sent you video of ULU going off to your personal email (the video i have been trying to get over to you ever since i came back from that trip). Please let me know if you got it.
Lou- thanks for the kind words...
Later,
Xavi
6 inch to 1 ft dribble showing on cam....maybe knee high wind chop tom at sobe for those who dont have time and/or money to get the goods in C. FL.?
Xavi, send it again. I didn't get it. I will also attempt to graciously invite you and your wife out to dinner for allowing me to visit and have lunch at your incredible arts center (Purnati) in Bali.
Not too hopeful about get ridables down here (except for small windchop). Looks like with the last swell our selectiveness has risen and the desperation has been squelched. Had a friend tell me he wants to have the memories of Sat last a few. We'll see how long it takes for the addiction to kick back up.
BTW looks like the possibility of another NE swell next week (starting Wed) 4-5 ft at 12-13 sec. Kinda on the outer fringes from a low off Nova Scotia. Can't complain at least we got possibilities.
Pirate surfers code: "Booty, babes, rum and waves the sealifes for me & me mates!" Yo!! Mike "Old school" contact Mark @ www.mystosurf.com he has a steal of a deal on a 28 footer for ya!!!

Score some wait to chest high swell surf afterwork in North PB. Wind out of noth putting a crinkle on it but still nice drops in the right place. Looks like it might be bigger maniana.

Our Lives - Our Oceans
Florida Healthy Ocean Initiative
Thursday, April 24th @ 7pm
Miami Beach Botanical Garden
This special presentation by SFL's own TJ Marshall will take place during our regular member meeting. Don't miss out!
Oceans are a sustaining force in our lives. From seafood to recreation, tourism to jobs, we depend on healthy coastal and ocean ecosystems for so much.
Yet our frame of reference is often only from above the surface, we rarely see or understand what is going on below. Join us for a unique presentation, diving below the waves to understand how overexploitation, habitat degradation and pollution are pushing our oceans toward a silent state of collapse.
Admission is free to the public!

actually had a lil bit of fun out south of penrods today from about 4-530pm. jus me and an old friend i havent seen in yrs. he jus came back from hermosa CR where he was running a surf tourism gig. unbeknownst to me until today, i've been watching him surf on papgsurf.com on the daily video posts in envy. any upcoast reports...wondering if anyone got the goods?
Still waist to chest plus in NPBC. Afternoon session by the pier was a blast with a few bomber sets connecting from outside to the inside. Too many assclowns siting on the inside making for a bit challenging navigating around them.

Too many good waves at risk. This is the type of stupidity that Miami-Dade Co would jump all over itself to mimic. Get involved, stay involved.
