What a great turnout!

Here's Miami Herald's article about the event.

Thanks to the Miami Herald for getting it right!  I invested eight hours work and 75 bucks,  every bit of it worth it to drive down and take part. Sorry that channel 7 screwed up their story, but that is par for the course with most of the press.  Be sure to check out the great Miami Herald article, and post a comment at the end of it, so government officials will see how outrageous it is for Bal Harbour to rent our access (state land, set aside for the public) and keep the money.  Let's be sure to get a copy of the police report and post it here, so we can see what excuse the cement truck driver had for dumping his load at our feet.

Thanks to Shane, TJ, Wyatt, Ericka and everyone.  The largest SF protest crowd in Florida in our 12 year history!

Ft. Pierce has some surf today, but nothing to write home about.  Looks like a small, long period trade swell will be available for us north of PBC, Tuesday thru Thursday,  IF WWIII is correct.

I've got some video of the construction workers up on the bridge cleaning up that concrete mess after the whole affair... the "Bal Harbug" sign was the best... hahaaa

TJ, please post this, and the last thread, for posterity!

What a rush! The protest was a big success! What a turn out. In case you missed it, we had the largest unity of surfers banding together for a cause in Florida History. Over 200 people in all showed up and raised some noise. And did they ever make some noise! 4 news channels covered the event, and the Miami Herald did a fantastic article on it as well ( http://www.miamiherald.com/519/story/404371.h... ).

Thanks to everyone who showed up and gave it their all. Thanks for the people who came out to make signs until nearly midnight the night before. Thanks to all the people from Broward and beyond that made the trek down to support their own. Thanks to the people who stepped up and got others involved. And special thanks to Chris from Island Water Sports for inspiring the charge!

For those of you who missed it, you can be proud. We gave 'em hell. Don't miss out on the next big event! We plan to make a lot of noise this year.

Cheers,

Thanks to all those at the protest. It was great to be involved in such a worthy cause.

I'm selling my quiver so that i can downsize and get ready for some trips.

Didnt make it to the rally - went surfing at south beach for the 6-8 foot sneeker swell, offshore winds glassy and no one out!!! wooo-hooooo!!!

Mr W.'s picture

Congrats to all that made the "rock the bridge" event happen. Wish I could  of made it but I had my one year olds party to make happen. At time it seemed like a big event too with all the preperation. Well enough about protest, time to go surfing!! I'm headed upcoast in the AM to score some of that swell making its way in up there.  Anyone want to go up to fort pierce in early AM tomorow? I'm heading up that way and perhaps further if need be.

Mr. B's picture

Looks like it'll be rather small scale, Mr. W (not that I could go anyways....).  High tide is early - around 7:30 am so Ft. Pierce on a longboard shopuld be alright.  Keep them rusty arms moving!  LOL

Mr W.'s picture

yeah last few of these little swells I was lucky in FP due to the fact that it breaks better at high tide then anywhere else. They are forcasting up to chest high surf for tomorow so I'm crossing my fingers I'll get close to that some where.

FYI got the scoop that Sunday Ft P had waist high long period swellage (same as the early part of the week). Breaking funky and kinda closey. Defied its usual self by breaking mo betta at lowish tide (not usual).

Mod chance at refractory wavers late weekend but don't start waxing up yet.

Mr. B's picture

For curious sake, was anyone able to find out the excuse from the cement truck that, ahem....., "accidentally" left a block-and-a-half worth of cement on the road next to us?  Was he part of the WCI construction?

C.Leon's picture

looks like theres a somethin brewin for sunday. To my surf crew that reads this, clear your schedule for a surf mish sunday.

Tj's picture

No word yet Mr. B. but Ch 7 news called me and noted that they told the Village police - "if that guy doesn't get stopped, we'll be back Monday for a story".  Got a call later that they guy was stopped and cited.  The news itself has been awesome play with State folks who are like "are you serious, that's awful".

Green Beer night on for the 19th?

kshane's picture

Just got back from SOBE about an hour ago. Fun sesh. Not too many people, small fun waves, with a few nice sets here and there. Just felt good to be in the water.

Green Beer night is supposed to be "on." Will have to check in to the date, etc... I will be sending out a newsletter tomorrow to the surfrider email list with details. Look for that some time before noon.

Cheers!

surfed sobe on the log from about 130-330pm. pretty damn fun. almost no one else out. 1.5-3.5 ft. fair+ E/SE windswell.

ER's picture

Mr. W,

How was your sesh at Ft. Pierce?  Seemed pretty small on the cams...

Winds have been low to mid 20's out of the SE since midnight last night. Should be some fun ridables at the right tide. Models hinted at a shot of SE days ago. Will be short lived as the winds turn a notch down this PM as the high pressure fades away from us.  Late weekend still looks iffy so cross yer fingers.

Cams are showing some ridables, high tide at 730 might give it a shot around 9.

bryanblaze's picture

Chill'n here at MBM on the yacht, will give the Boyz in the office a visual report from the sand, F_ _ _ cameras : ), Haulover needs their own camera!!! 8 am 2nd Street  had Knee to waist surf some lines and Dave O was wack'n a few lips, 1 or 2 off the tops, anyone else forget it. The tide is get'n higher so maybe this afternoon at low tide, longboard sesh if wind keeps up all day?

Peace!!!

C.Leon's picture

got a report from a buddy who longboarded sb from 10-11 am. said it was small but fun and clean.

Mr. B's picture

This is new to me.  Anyone ever see a surfing duck? (just deal with the 11 or 15 sec advertisment before the clip....)

ER to answer your question, yes Ft. Pierce was small on Tuesday, as usual the swell up coast got hyped up by SL reports. There was a rideable wave and at best perhaps it did peak over waist high but the  average wave was just over knee high.  The crowd was very low and everyone had a good vibe. Even Lance-O was there to partake. Talked to him for a bit, real nice guy all around. Although the morning had some chop on it the wind backed off by noon making for fun pealers. Better then working fo sure.

I'll see your surfing duck and skateboarding dog, and I'll raise you a surfing kitten.

kshane, I will not only call your kitten, but raise you a mouse.

we need waves urgently

kshane's picture

Ok, you got me B! That is funny.

Johnny, I know it isnt much, but the last two days have been LB perfect at sobe. Not too many folks out and a lot of fun sets. Go get wet brother!

s

GablesLos's picture

Sobe was not bad at all from 11 to about 1. Crowd fluxed a lot but fun little waist highers. Lot's of people talking about the protest and how good it was. Few people who didn't go were regretting it but they'll be there next time.

kshane's picture

I am still pumped from the event! We are going to make a LOT OF NOISE this year! There is NO BETTER TIME to be a part of Surfrider than right here, right now. I am getting emails all the time from people saying how proud they are of what our group did.

STOKED!
s

C.Leon's picture

surfed sobe on LB from 230-430pm. up to 3.5 ft good shape until 330, when it got smaller and shittier. overall fun and better than nada. cross fingers for a possible wave on sunday.

^wow you have no concept of wave height. 3.5 ft is almost head high.

anyways, dania was knee-thigh w/ a waist peak

C.Leon's picture

yeah if ur a midget

C.Leon's picture

all im saying is the biggest waves i saw were chest high...not trying to start another dadeco argument. ONE LOVE

Mr. B's picture

I guess your better off calling waves around here the way they actually are.  Knee/Waist  Waist/Stomach/  Stomach/Chest  Chest/....

(but whose counting.....) lol  Numbers are just so arbitrary when you live in an area that hardly has waves.

2/29/08 FRI 8:30pm

3/1/08 SAT 6:30pm

Mr. C. Leon, I was there about the same time and it was a solid waist to rib, with occ, chest high peak on 4th street, so don't let the haters spoil your fun, because it was a beautiful day in and out of the ocean!

This weekends event looks like a dud. Good chance of good ol E/SE windchop Tues/Wed. Some models have it blowing up to 20-26 knts.

Forgot to mention NE winds at 20 knts starting on Sunday into Monday but they really don't count in my book (crappola factor)

cshapes305's picture

I remember winters being more exciting... We had a (H) high pressure out in the ocean all the time...

Not a good winter, lets hope this spring brings us those SE trades that used to be common round hea. Or maybe at least a N swell or two. Come on King Neptune what do we have to do or sacrifice?

We have to sacrifice our public beach access. (just kidding...I hope)

TheRealTruth's picture

Hey D- if 3.5 Ft is almost to your head, you must be really short......

Carlos thank for clarifying what the (H) stood for
