Custom Surfboard Special Offer - Cshapes
Plug from tc
Posted January 11th, 2008 01:09 PM
Cshapes is lowering prices for a limited time. Not that they are too expensive anyway! From what I've seen the quality of Carlos's boards looks very high. Contact him for more info at: carlos@cshapes.com

Awesome boards, if you need a board get one from C Shapes. I ride a C Shapes fish in knee high South Beach to over head Dominical and it works great in all conditions.
Small scale but clean East windswell upcoast today. It was around yesterday but fell under the radar. This week has East winds 15-20 knts on Wed turning South at 20 knts into Thursday. Models had it at 30 knts yesterday but have backed down. Nothing like a little bit of South swellies to keep us in Tune.
Looks like Dawn of the Dead at south.
I got to see Carlos' shop for the first time last week. Dropped my board off for repair. Good guy, hooked me up, and it was good to see his work first hand. Nice boards.
cheers,

chance for waves maybe on sunday the 20th. I'll be flying back from Malpais (bittersweet).
Titanic at 7pm tom?
Yes
Looks like waves possibly for Thursday.
From your mouth to GOD's ears!
s
might want to check ocean in AM up the road. Wink.
guys i'm coming to visit for like 10 days... I predict great waves for all of us!
No waves ever today but that should change soon. Still up for some SE wc on Wed and S swellies on Thursday. Late this weekend models hinting of NW winds (Non refacto event anyone) and a decent fetch of N winds early next week. Stay tuned kiddies.
Did you all hear the good news? Nordstrom is coming to Aventura! If CShapes can have all the plugs on earth as an advertiser and supporter of this site, so should Nordstrom. So kiddies, click on the ad and browse around. I'll be posting pictures of the Winter and Spring line soon and get TC to make a plug out of it. Then we'll have a few folks rave about how good their clothing and prices are and we should all go to the grand opening......
You cant be serious.....i think its cool that this sight supports local business - and im supposing most of the ad space is not for FREE? F*k NERDSTROMS anyway - i've been looking at the reports on other sites, and as we get closer, the info seems to be deteriorating, at least on the periods....looks like the bahamas is gonna get rocked?
heard last weekend was the surf expo in orlando - CSHAPES you should look into going if you havent already. Ithink they are twice a year, one coming up in the summer.........
this place f-ing sucks no waves ever going to pr in two weeks cant wait
Nordstrom is a supporter of the site too, Johnny. So is Ocean Chiropractic of Aventura and IWS in Lake Worth, not to mention The Surfrider Foundation. No equality?
And for the record, I'm all for local support - all advertisers here are of So. Fl origins. I love pizza too, but if I eat too much of it, I get sick and my cholesterol goes through the roof!
My point is advertising and support begins to whane when it becomes too predictable like this. Wanna insult me, criticize me, etc etc? Go ahead. It's been slow around here anyways. In the long run, you will see how right I am.
look at this

and back in miami
http://dadecosurf.com/index.php?q=gallery&g2_itemId=3923
i think i will go shoot myslef
The difference is Nordstrom makes millions of dollars, Cshapes doesnt. He does it for love of the craft. Plus we all know Carlos, he's out the on South beach filming away on the swells and contributes the footage for free.
Uranus - dont take it personally - didnt know nordstroms was a paying advertiser on this site - dont recall seeing it one the site or a supporter of local events... as for Ocean Chiropractic of Aventura and IWS in Lake Worth (and MIAMI), The Surfrider Foundation i consider local business - who actively participate in local community events etc...which we appreciate inmensly. plus i think they probalby do pay for their ad space, and if they dont i dont give a ratsazzz
i dont run the site nor do i give two shiites about who advertises on here either - its all about C.R.E.A.M. - as long as people post relevant info pertaining to the reason why we login here several times a day - ie checking the surf report of an epic day in wisconsin!!!! funny i saw the pics and actullay felt a little envy running through my veins....
JUST WANTED TO LET THE ENTIRE SURF COMMUNITY KNOW ThAT * BUCKS has a two for one sale FOREVER - pic up your 1500 calorie LATTE on your way to the aventura mall this weekend sincethere aint gonna be any waves fo yo a$$!
PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Uranus, I'm posting a sale cause I'm about to close down. Why don't you come to my shop? Reveal yourself, and I'll give you $100.00 off... I may not be around much longer...?
I think the Nordstrom ad is part of the Google Ad sense anyways. I dont think the Nordstrom marketing Dept is running ads on Dade County Surf. TC, correct me if I'm wrong. If they are, I hope you charged them up the #$$%
Closing down shop? sorry to hear that...
No I'm not closing down yet, but if this drought persists then it may be curtains...? I'm not going down without a fight... The economy is messed up, and the surfboard market is screwed up... Some shapers are holding their ground and chargin what they are worth, but most are giving their stuff away, cutting each others throats. From the sound of things 95% of Surfers are getting a stupid good deal. It should be the other way around. Surfers should be supporting their shapers. The Factors: 1) Bad Economy 2) Messed Up Surfboard Market 3) No Waves... If one of these three factors improves then we're still in business...
Cshapes, sorry your closing down. Never like to see a local shut down and wish you well with whatever comes next. As for Gumps comment, what can I really say..... your right, dude - on all levels. His contributions deserve props. My apologies to all. Perhaps I ruffled a feather or two, but no ill intent with my comments. I'll shut up now......
Uranus, when you feel like writing a check to me for hosting costs and the time spent to keep the site running, I'll go ad free. But until then, don't be an ungrateful guest. The ads are really the only thing keeping this site going. Sorry to say it. Between work and family, I don't have enough time to dedicate to this page. Its a tough position, but part of the progression of life. I'm just glad people like TJ, Pete and Wyatt continue to update the site and use it to its ful potential.
As for the plug, given all of the contributions from Carlos through the years, I'd post whatever he asked. $50 is a deal, and if someone emails me something like that it usually gets plugged.
Never saw a Nordstrom ad here, but Google adsense is a weird beast. I think when there is a lot of traffic, the bigger name ads get placed. I've seen REI in the past, but that was the biggest one.
Mavericks contest is live on Myspace right now.
Its the finals...

Keep up the good work TC ( as well as Wyatt, TJ and Pete). This site does more for South Florida surfers than I think they realize. Over the years, it has evolved the right way and has a pretty damn good active audience . What it's doing to get the word out and organize us to make a difference... this type of platform and following doesn't happen without some pretty passionate people (with day jobs) who love the ocean and surf.
Where can I mail a check to support? I'll put my money where my mouth is...
just saw that the tri-rail doesnt allow surf boards on its trains!
Well put Tim. Nice to hear a fellow Grovite shout-out on here! TC, put a paypal donation button on the home page. I am sure a few of us will use it.
I was at the Surf Expo this past weekend. It was a bit overwhelming. There are a few smaller shappers and other home-grown businesses, but the majority of it is a HUGE commercial blitz of music, lights and girls in bikinis. Which is fine and all, since most of them started as home-grown businesses back in the day. But yes... CShapes would do good to show up at one of those events, if he could afford the booth. I am sure that runs a pretty penny. Surfrider had a tiny booth tucked behind one of those HUGE corporate layouts. Less of a booth, really, more like the west wing, complete with gals wearing not much more than dental floss. Our "save the environment" message was pretty well stacked under a few acres of trees worth of paper flyers.

Nice to see a little amusement during the lulls. Cheers to CShapes. He does a lot for the Miami surf community and deserves mention. Regarding the ad's, of course, they are necessary for the survival, and TC, correct me if I'm wrong, but for the Ad's to be considered productive, people need to click them and get the counts up, so friends, click away! I know I did and it's another way of showing support. tpb-lb did come up with a good idea though. Is it possible to have a donation icon? I'm sure there's gotta be a way with Paypal or something that won't cost a fortune to do. I'll donate.
Uranus, you sure wrote a bunch of sarcastic smut, but at least you had both, the common sense and decency to apologize for it, so apology accepted. However, think before you write next time, bro. The broader picture is much greater than the narrow-minded point-of-view.
If something positive comes out of this thread, CShapes will have sold a bunch of boards, people start commenting more, and all the advertisers get more exposure - yes, including the ads by Google thingamajiggy. win/win
Could't afford it... Besides I rather go on a surf trip than spend $2500.00 over there... Its fun but if you don't have the bling its kinda pointless... I can barely afford to put a board in the ESM board forum. Maybe someday, if i can get this thing going again? The good thing is boards are coming out better than ever, but I'll let people tell you about...
Word Mr. B... I just want to surf as bad as the next guy. Peace to you all!
Latest MF for So Fl has north winds 20 knots gusting to 40 on Sat eve and NE 20 knots gusting to 40 Sunday. Lets hope this event isn't quite as dissapointing as the last.
I GOT TWO NEW BOARDS FROM CARLOS. CHECK OUT THE NEW HQ ITS SOOOO GOOD IN THE CRAP WE SURF AROUND HERE. MINE IS A 5'9' X 19.5 X 2.3 THE QUAD OPTION MAKES IT A SUPERCHARGED HIGH PERFORMANCE FISH A LOT OF FUN IN THE SMALLER SURF IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A NEW BOARD I WOULD JUMP ALL OVER IT (DISCOUNT OR NOT)
http://www.cshapes.com/surfboards.html
Mav's contest is on loop. Contest was already run.
I don't know personally but I heard from someone who is friends with someone that knows someone and she says that it is $2550 for a 10x10 booth at surf expo. There has never been a local shaper who has been able to maintain a profitable business in miami by selling to only the local contsituents that surf here. Not Mitch, not Jack, not Mike Stewart.......etc. Surf expo is one way to get your name out there as well as make contacts and get some orders placed. It is quite the circus or so I have heard, but sometimes the investment pays off.
But what do I know, I'm just a clown.
LOL
c shapes hang in there! I'll put good thoughts out there for you...
And yeah, that's a good idea, Mr. B. - putting a donation button up... (Tc - It's pretty easy to do through PayPAL, actually - but I think they get a small percentage of anything that goes through the link... Might be better if you can do it another way...)
I've been meaning to do that on my own site, too... And doesn't anyone want a cool, totally original T-shirt??? (www.thequestioneverythingplace.com if anyone wants to check out my stuff... p.s. prices are flexible and not etched in stone! Surfrider peeps might like the Anti-Corporate one, under the "just questions" tab... Tj I think I was wearing it once at an ACE meeting and you said you liked it... Should have told you I make them!)
That said, I'm an artist and I suck at marketing - could definitely use some help if anyone out there is good at that stuff and likes what I'm doing...
And maybe we'll at least get some chop out of this!
~peace!~
Homey - I think you're right on that. I thought it was $2500.00 also...
It's even worse for the big garment industry shows - usually $5,000.00 for a booth! I've been told I need to do it, too - that it's the only way to get to the next level, and though insanely expensive -definitely worth it.
One option is to find someone to share a booth with and split the costs...
~peace!~
hey guys whats Chilo's surfboards phone #?
CShapes, got any step up boards there; 6'4" or 6'5"?
Gotta go international since all we get is major skunkage. Cali has been firing for 2 months now; None of those Ls make it down here?!
Keep prayin'
ww3 is looking worse with every update. it now looks weak on wed. and just a hair bigger on thrusday. long range looks good (for chop) but we say that alot around here.before dark on wed and dp on thur looks to be the best bet in the short run.
Heard it was fun and rideable this early afternoon in north couty. I did check it at around 10am and saw nothing but a weak knee high wave with two guys on longboards catchin pathetic stuff so I passed. Based on reports things picked up but I don't know by how much.
Homey, Slider, everyone, thanks for the comments. Good or Bad I'm glad to see ya'll have something to say. Right now I'm hustling fixing everyones boards, that side of the biz is always steady. I enjoy bringing boards back to life. Boards from other makers, they get my outmost respect. I just wish we had more waves. Thats my biggest insanity.
cshapes since you like bringing boards back to life I have a project that a friend of mine and I started. Originally it was an 8' 6" longboard, my first board ever, which happened to buckle in a bad spot. So we shaped it down to about a 6' 8" mini log. Sadly we haven't gone any further with it. Frankly because we don't know what else to do, how to glass, etc.. so if I could bring it by one day and you tell me how much to glass it , finish it off that would be sweet. I would love to get it in the water and test it out. That is if you think it will even float, ha ha
dontaion thing would be nice, i know everyone has a buck to spare, loose change in the sofa?
c-shapes - i saw a while back you had a spot in surfer mag as an invited shaper or something so your name is already out there at least - just goota keep on pushin
waves on sunday?
Sure, I'll gladly take a look... You guys can find my number on my site / contact link...
Models downgraded tomorrows SE winds but should still blow 15-20 knts. Monday sees an increasing East wind looking to blow 20 knts + and slowly turning SE. It may not be swell but the ol bread and butter will do around here. Just make it ridable down here O king Neptune.
guys if any of you got any info that could help me locate Marcos (Chilo surfboard) please. It seems the cellphone he had is no longer working... Please, thanks.
Well guys by midnight I will be on my way to Puerto Rico for my first surf trip ever. The models are showing some swell filling in later in the week. Any advice / words of wisdom? I'll be visiting Rincon, Jobos, possibly Aviones, and other assorted breaks.
use protection on your first time ever....
Yeah make sure you buy your protection in the states. Seems like the stuff you can buy there just doesn't work as well. When you get there look around and you'll know what we mean.
haha protection. I will be departing for Malpais CR tom morning, only expecting 2-5 ft. (surfline/wetsand) but ill come back and let you guys know how it was and what breaks i surfed, etc.
Also, I went to the Surfrider GREEN BEER night at Titanic Brewery last night and it was great. Props to TJ for putting on an excellent presentation. I urge anyone who is concerned with coastal ecology issues and down to meet some all around cool people to check out the next Surfrider event.
C.Leon... Did we meet lastnight?
I second C's props. TJ gave an excellent presentation, and the turnout was fantastic. UM showed up in force as well.
If anyone is interested in coming to Green Beer Night next month, email me at miami@surfrider.org and I will be sure to get you on the notification list.
Cheers,

I dont believe we met. Next time for sure though.
So..... the winds are blowing and the waves royally suck. How fu**ing depressing, guys.
I'm taking off to surf/shoot in Ecuador (probably staying around Manta) the first week of March, if anyone is going to be there and/or has contacts over there.
Send me a message at MySpace:

That's cuz you a playa, Lou! LOL
Can't wait to see what you shoot.

RRivas1985, I go about 4 times a year and you will have a blast, at Aviones find a landmark were you paddled out safely if not it is Urchin city! I learned that the hard way, definitly go to Rincon if its working, besides the great surf you won't believe the view. Have fun! I'm heading back during spring break and I can't wait! Where in PR are you staying?
Im staying with a friend in yauco, when I get there then were gonna spend the rest of my week there in a little beach house in the SW corner of the island. Cabo rojo i think. I've never surfed reef before so im psyched / nervous... dont wanna get stuck by those urchins
Urchins make great toothpicks. Just make sure your in control of whos picking at what.
If you step on a sea urchin: dont let someone piss on your foot and tell you it's raining.
