there have been better days for football fans in Miami
The blow out in the Orange Bowl was really hard to watch. the only consolation is that Ohio State lost. But it didn't match the magnitude of the 2 wave hold down pounding that the 'Canes got on Saturday. The loss set records about losing no team wants to keep track of. It really wasn't a great way to leave, or told to vacate the premises so the city can build a baseball stadium for A-Rod's Florida Marlins. But really, times like these, you gotta think of the good times.
Such as the 2001 'Canes. They dominated like no other teams in the Butch Davis run. OK that weael wasn't the coach at the time, but it was still his team. (The greatest gift Larry Coker ever got.) Anyway, they had demolished close to every team they faced that year, including a rout of Nebraska for the National Championship. Their season had the largest total margin of victory within school history! From Wikipedia: "Among the numerous stars on the 2001 Miami squad were: Dorsey; running backs Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee, Najeh Davenport, and Frank Gore; tight end Jeremy Shockey; wide receiver Andre Johnson; tackles Bryant McKinnie and Joaquin Gonzalez; defensive linemen Jerome McDougle, William Joseph, and Vince Wilfork; linebackers Jonathan Vilma and D.J. Williams; and defensive backs Ed Reed, Mike Rumph, and Phillip Buchanon." One of the best college teams in the last 10 years for certain. (2005 USC better? not really)
It was a crazy season, games at the Orange Bowl were electric, especially the nite games. The game everyone was looking towards was Washington. They were the teams only loss the season prior, and cost the 'Canes a National Championship. Such a major league whomping the U layed down against Washington that late November nite in 2001. The game actually was rescheduled due to the events on Sept 11, 2001. And that placed another level of drama on it. Also it was Senior Day for many of those named above, more drama. It was also the U's employee day tickets, which meant employees, (ie me at the time) could get 5 tickets for $5 dollars.
I could only get 1 guy to go with me, a friend of a friend, but someone I knew ok. Anyway, towards the beginning of the game he gets into with a Washington fan. After they saw each other in the bathroom he yelled something at him. He wasn't the only one there being nasty to the chardonnay sippers, the poor excuse for fans that the Huskies brought with them. It got bad, at halftime the score was 37-0. People were totally wasted and vocal about it. The bathrooms were incredibly filthy and many of the Washington fans were visibly bothered by all of the alcohol being consumed at a NCAA sanctioned event. (Dude people were being blatant and bringing in cases of beer).
It was an incredible time. The guys on that team must have had the feeling that they could f*ck kill or eat anything they'd encounter. I, as a fan, felt vastly superior to the scaredy cats that ran screaming from the OB that nite. It was probably the total opposite of the vibe last nite. I can only imagine.
Oh well on to the next place.

John Beck Looks to have some potential... Almost had a nice TD pass... I think Cameron shouldn't be both Head Coach and Offensive coordinator... Too much control for one person. That's almost a dictatorship. The Play calling is 50/50... Some are good calls, some are horrendous, like the 4 and out from the 2 yard line....
john beck is a mormon. mormoms believe in talking salamanders and golden tablets containing scriptures only to be read with moon stones..
Darn...
Well Clean Cut Ricky will be back next week I heard? He Used to camp out in the Australian outback with Aboriginies getting bit by insects, and smoking grass, with a long beard. But that don't mean he ain't a good RB...
ricky supposedly practiced today. could be interesting. he owes the fins a lot of money. he is a slave to the nfl now
Is it the players? Is it the play calling? Watching last nights heart breaker, it was clear to me it was terrible play calling. The Dolphins have no malice, and we're not faking anybody with the fake reverse we do on every drive. We're 0-11 we have nothing to lose by letting the QB throw a little more. And Ricky, why run him 3 plays in a row? I'm no football analyst, and I can't beat anybody on madden, but last night it wasn't the players who lost, it was the no malice, ain't faking you out play calling...
My Thoughts go out to the Sean Taylor Family. The pain of losing a Loved One is far worse than that of losing a Football Game... Me he Rest in Peace.
Thanks Coach C, Amongst 13 straight loses, the Joy of 1 victory is just as sweet as winning a Championship.
All is forgiven... At least on my behalf.
Ha, no doubt. I was so happy, I think my eyes got watery - no pun intended (Watery Eye Images is dead and buried).
I can't remember the last time I was so happy about a Dolphins victory. Unfortunately, it was a short lived joy for Coach Cameron. Now we've got the Dallas mafia here and I've got one skeptical eye on them and the other on a couple of longtime mistresses - one being the San Diego Chargers and the Seattle Seahawks.
If we start playing "three yards and a cloud of dust" football under Parcells and these clowns, I give up on the Dolphins and I'll start rooting for my second and third favorite teams, regardless of how many victories they bring us.
Even passing up on Brady Quinn (ask Josue how much that hurt - I was talking about that pick the year BEFORE he entered the draft) wasn't enough for me to give up on the Dolphins, but bringing in Parcells and his gang of windbags...
No way. Enough.
Not sure I agree with you Lou....
The team Parcells created in Dallas clinched the division and homefield advantage for the playoffs this year. That is basically his team in dallas.... just like cameron was basically coaching sabans dumba$$ team. And....for the most part.... you need to win more than one game to clinch your division in the nfl. So it will work out for the best, it really cant get THAT much worse, can it??
But i think the best thing Parcells will bring will be on draft day. (dont forget he snagged romo from free agency as well) The four Cowboys drafts that Parcells was involved in produced nine starters so far -- including five drafted in the third round or later! He is notorious for developing young talent in the NFL.....and thats exactly what the dolphins need.
I don't disagree that we might win more games, I'm just hoping it won't be a la "three yards and a cloud of dust."
Honestly, I'd rather lose and be entertained (not that we were entertained this year, eh, don't get me wrong) than to win 16 games by grinding it out/the New Jersey Devils of the NFL style.
And as far as Parcells, he's gone on record as wanting to draft RICK MIRER over Drew Bledsoe that year AND he's a Scott Norwood field-goal away from being a one-time Super Bowl winner, instead of the two he has right now.
Maybe it's me, but I've always thought Parcells was overrated. And the deal with calling Terry Glenn "she" a few years back - that just makes him an ass.
I hope, for our sake, I'm wrong, but I really do think he's overrated.
And a jerk.
