Surf Forecast 2/1/2012

Forecast bradswells

It looks like the current pattern will continue for the next week or so. Winds will slack off through midweek a bit, but come up again as a cold front makes it way down the state. This front looks pretty weak and is forecast to stall out similar to the last. Winds will come up on Friday and stay up through the weekend.

Surf is semi-rideable depending on tide and equipment. I got a few last night. Looks like the waves will drop through Thursday before building with the wind on Friday. Maybe around waist high later this week in to the weekend.

Trends end eventually. Hopefully, we'll get the goods when we break in to something more wintry...

darren. i just cashed in frequent flier miles for a 9 day trip to costa rica in may with the help of greg from CR surf. i have been going every summer for 11 years and thought that i didn't need any help but Greg is the MAN and can really help out with finding low prices and logistics. thanks greg!

Go to CR soon, there is some impressive action brewing in the Northpac as we speak .

Check out this Vid Taken this Sunday of an SUP adventure .  No Manta Ray but a few whales got really close to the group. It was pretty cool.

As far as CR, you are all overlooking the Carribean side.  It's been pumping overhead surf non-stop ALL SEASON LONG!!!!  If you want solid overhead reef juice, head in that direction or go to Bocas del Toro in Panama.  If I had both, the time and dime, it would be my seasonal destination of chioce for a swift tactical strike - and man am I into tactical strikes!

Brad, Doing a great job holding the page down.

Thanks man.

Been playen music and haven't been wet in over a month.

I gotta get out there more. Don't laugh if you just see me paddling around just for exercise with so many flat days.

Eyes gotta agree with surfsup regarding size yesterday.  More than I expected.  Had a total blast between the sandbars of 91st - 81st

Yeah, but you have that fortunate sail-factor advantage, Kiteboy... You can cruise right through the blown-out mess!

Very true, slider.  Very true...  :o)

We've currently got a tropical Low pressure invest off Cuba - IN FEBRUARY?!!!!

bradswells's picture

It feels more like early summer than mid-winter with tropical moisture streaming in off the ocean from a low spinning to our southwest. Very strange.

Anyhow, I hope you guys had a chance to catch some of that chop-chop. Heard it was pretty fun- I've been far too busy to get out.

A lil sum sum in Sobe.. Looks ridable.. Better than yesterday at least : )

gosurfeen's picture

Feeder bands!  Just kidding, but there is a small, lower level closed circulation down off the central Keys, and the bands extend up to Jupiter.  I got about a half inch today here in LW.  February does not have any cold weather forecast here yet, so if this continues we could have a warm, dry and waveless winter shaping up.  I hear PR is pretty good today, and there's a chest high swell right now from St. Lucie county north.

Mr. B's picture

Something of curiousity was a report from a charter boat today about 3-5foot SE wind chop out there with a BIG (8-10 feet and scary) East short period swell sets popping up every 7 minutes until 11:00am.  I did not hear or see anything to that magnitude hitting the coast though.  Just found it strange.

Sobe was fun tonight.. Hope we have something left tomorrow

Mr W.'s picture

mr. B , I can confirm that there was a chest to head high ne - e swell in the water north of jupiter inlet on eve of the super bowl. We were surfing Jupiter and as we got out buddy told us he surfed twice the size on other side. Drove up to investigate and ended up scoring some field goals of our own on nice shoulder to head high lefts with near off shore conditions. Looked like a long period swell of some kind since there was a bit of wait between the monster sets.  Still a line in water today but not like yesterday afternoon. Best wave I saw in a month now. Crazy how I almost missed it.

northside was fun this morning on outgoing tide.

That water was damn cold!

Felt like gumbi in the 4.3.... but what a beautiful place and solid cali winter waves.

A million thanks to Greg for being a the best host on the west coast.

For a taste of that hospitality check out www.crsurf.com.

Flat today in SPB.  Dead air at times, so it would be fun if it were ridable.

Brad and Greg - I am looking for the graphic artist/contributor who is a user or guest here that created the great image I refer to as "trashy cutback". It was photoshopped to include lots of trash in the wave.  FAU would like to include it in a presentation describing how Surfrider Foundation fights for clean water, etc. as part of the historical surfing exhibit opening in at FAU in a few weeks.  Also the poster "surf the sewer" that was used to help support the legislation to close the outfalls.  Let me know if anyone has contact info for these people.  trwarnke (at) hotmail (dot) com   Sorry for being wordy, but it fits here, especially when it's flat.

gosurfeen's picture

mlass - your moniker photo might work too, if you have a high res version.  Thanks

Mr. B's picture

I won't put a correlation to it - yet, but this is the 4th warmest winter on record.  2006 was the warmest since the 1800's.  Taking a look at 2006's hurricane season, it was relatively mild.

10 named storms, 2 major, and only 2 landfall (Alberto then Ernesto over us - approached from the south) and most were Atlantic storms

Should we anticipate a slower than average hurricane season with a similar pattern this year?

BTW, N/NE windchop scheduled for the weekend, kids.

Hey so when I was in North Peru before i got in the water I took this video of a wave + 1 set and put it all together in a cool short video. It does show the south pacific power when the waves just don't stop coming in lol

anyways it was in el hueco at lobitos before the crwod got in. enjoy (recorded it with my phone lol)
